New Online Grading Policies

I know many students and parents have probably been wondering about grades and credit for this semester’s classes. Thank you for your patience during this confusing time!

Starting on Monday, our system of online learning will change a little bit. Over the weekend, the district will be sharing information with students and parents regarding how online work will count towards credit. Please keep an eye out for these communications.

Once this plan has been finalized, I will provide some more details on exactly what students in Psychology, Sociology and AP Psychology will need to do for the remainder of the school year. It won’t be much different from what we’ve been doing so far, but work WILL be required in order to earn credit for the courses. So again- please make sure you are checking Google Classroom and your email to stay informed.

All classes do have existing assignments due this evening at 11:59 pm.

As usual, stay safe and please reach out if you have any questions!

Tuesday, April 14th

No new news here, but just a few reminders:

-All classes have Google Classroom assignments to work on this week

-Please contact me ASAP if you are in need of technology to complete online learning. This includes AP students who might have any issues taking the exam online next month

-Please stay tuned for updates from the school district on how we will be handling the remainder of the school year.

Take care and stay safe!

Internet & Computer Access

Important reminder: In order to finish the school year online, each student will need to have reliable internet access and a computer (not just a phone) available at home. Please email me ASAP if you are in need of either of these things. The school district can provide them, but we need to know!

Obviously you are reading this on some sort of device, but keep in mind that it may be difficult to share one device among several family members. Don’t be embarrassed to ask if you need one- I actually didn’t have a computer at home either and I am currently writing this from a school issued Chromebook.

Please spread the word to anyone you may not be checking the blog- it is very important that everyone has the necessary tools to access their education!

Return from Spring Break Update (Monday, April 13th)

Welcome back! We will be continuing with our online learning this week.

Throughout this morning, I will be posting the assignments for all three classes on Google Classroom. Please note that all assignments should be turned in by Friday, April 17th at 11:59 pm.

We have not yet received any information from the district as to how we will be handling grades, credit, etc so please keep in mind that things could change. Please make sure to check this blog and Google Classroom regularly.

AP students- please make sure you take a look at the exam information shared on Google Classroom before the break. The exam will take place (in your home, on your own device) at 2:00 pm on TUESDAY, MAY 19th. This is different from the time that you would have taken it at school.

As usual, please feel free to reach out with any questions and stay safe!

Friday, April 3rd

Thank you to the AP Psychology students who joined our Google Meet today. On Google Classroom you can find a document outlining some important new information about this year’s exam.

We will be on spring break this week, which means no school work! After the break, we will return to online learning. We don’t yet have the details as to exactly how this will work, so please stay tuned for updates!

In the meantime, please take the week to relax, spend time with family and most importantly, stay safe!

Today’s virtual spirit day theme is to share what you’ve been doing to stay safe during the epidemic. I’ve been staying home with my husband playing lots of games! Check out who is winning:

Thursday, April 2nd

Today Governor Whitmer made the announcement that students will not be returning to school buildings for the remainder of the school year. I know that this is disappointing to many of you who were looking forward to end of the year events like prom and graduation. Please keep in mind that this difficult time is only temporary. You still have so many opportunities to make new memories ahead of you!

We will be taking a break from school work for spring break next week. After that, we will likely continue with some form of online instruction, but we are awaiting further details from the school district on how this will work.

Please remember that AP Psych students have assignments due this evening, and Psychology/Sociology students have assignments due tomorrow.

AP Psych students are invited to participate in another (optional) Google Meet tomorrow (Friday) at 12:00 pm to check in and play a review game. I should hopefully have some more information from the College Board regarding AP exams to share at that time. I will send out an email invite tomorrow morning.

Today’s spirit day is crazy socks. Today I am wearing my buffalo socks because I usually spend spring break in Buffalo, NY with my family. I am looking forward to going back there once this is all over with!

As usual, stay safe, check Google Classroom and remember to email me if you have any questions!

Wednesday, April 1st

Today’s virtual spirit day theme is to share what you’re reading! Share a picture of your latest book with DHS social media #pioneerpride.

All students have one more set of assignments due before we start spring break next week. Please remember to check Google Classroom daily!

I just ordered a new book by my favorite author, Augusten Burroughs:

As usual, stay healthy and please reach out if you have any questions about this week’s assignments!

Tuesday, March 31st

Today’s virtual spirit day theme is “create”! Share a picture of something you’ve created with DHS social media #pioneerpride. Psychology students, if you have started working on your brain models, this would be a great option!

All students have one more set of assignments due before we start spring break next week. Please remember to check Google Classroom daily!

Here’s a picture of some Easter egg decorations I made last week:

Monday, March 30th

This week we are awaiting further information from our governor to find out how long we will be doing remote learning. Make sure to look for important announcements from the schools this week!

AP Psych students are working on exam review. I have posted new assignments today and am encouraging these students to take advantage of the review resources offered by the College Board.

Psychology students also received a new set of assignments this week. Please note that they are due Friday (instead of Monday). They will be viewing a film about some unusual brain injuries and building a model of a brain.

Sociology students have assignments due Thursday night. They are learning about subcultures and countercultures in American society. They will also be watching a documentary about the Amish culture.

Students will not have any assignments during next week’s spring break.

Remember, this week is virtual spirit week at DHS. Today’s theme is pets and stuffed animals. Since I don’t use social media and am allergic to animals, here is a picture of me and my “pet” Boo:

As usual remember to check Google Classroom each day and keep in touch if you have questions!

Friday, March 27th

Today AP Psych had our first video conference on Google Meet. I would like to offer an additional meeting on Monday at 12:00 for anyone who missed it. Details will be on Google Classroom.

Please continue checking Google Classroom regularly and don’t forget about virtual spirit week next week (see info in yesterday’s post).

Take some time to try something new this weekend- read a book, do a puzzle or make some crafts! Stay safe!
