Good Morning,

This is the final post of the year here to the blog. My hope is that everyone has a great summer and we can all get back to somewhat normal for next school year. I am going to share the weekly rundown below and a link to the 8th grade calendar. Have a great summer!

On a side note, some of you noticed that last week, on Friday, I did not post the final assignment for the week. You did NOT miss it, I never posted it. I was having internet issues on Friday and by the time everything was worked out that day it was pretty late in the day. I did not want to post it in the afternoon or evening so chose to simply not post it. If you are interested in seeing the material that it included I am sharing the Youtube links to the videos WITHOUT the questions on Google Classroom.

Monday- Finish all missing work. I will be grading last week’s assignments and inputting any late work I find in Google Classroom. Outside of late work, the gradebook will be finished.

Tuesday- Finish all missing work. Starting today: please email me when you submit any missing work with the name of the missing assignment.

Wedneday- Finish all missing work. Email me when you submit any missing work with the name of the missing assignment. THIS IS YOUR LAST DAY TO SUBMIT LATE WORK!

Thursday- I will be posting final grades this day. I will also be making recommendations for summer school programs based on missing work and low scores

Friday- No school! Enjoy your summer!!!

Good Morning!

Here is a quick rundown of what to expect for each day this week in History class. Also, if you are missing work from any past weeks in April and May you should go back and complete as much of that as possible (as soon as possible). Remember, there are only two weeks left and I would like all missing work to be submitted by this upcoming TUESDAY 6/9/20 so that I have time to go back through the work and update the gradebook.

This week:

Monday- Read Chapter 18 sections 1 and 2 and answer the Google Form Questions

Tuesday- Finish sections 1 and 2 AND Question posted to Google Classroom. Office Hours 2pm-3pm via email or Google Classroom

Wednesday- Read Chapter 18 sections 3 and 4 and answer the Google Form Questions

Thursday- Finish sections 3 and 4 AND Question posted to Google Classroom. Office Hours 2pm-3pm via email or Google Classroom

Friday- Watch the President’s Video about Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S. Grant and answer the Google Form Questions.

Hello Vikings!

Just because we are going through this trying time and are stuck at home, doesn’t mean that we can keep up with our fitness! So, I created a Track Google Classroom page for you all. One this page you will find a 6 week @home workout schedule. Many of these workouts you would have seen throughout the track season at some point.
This page will allow you to communicate directly with me as you go through the workout. Share your successes, your struggles, ask questions and motivate each other to keep up with it!
If you go out for a run or walk please notify and get permission from parents. OR TAKE THEM WITH YOU!!

I will be monitoring and adding in my own motivation. IF any abuses this or posts unwanted comments, you will be immediately removed from the group and Admin and Parents will be notified.

We are all on the same team and in this together Let’s help push each other to be our best and help each other through it!

Good Morning,

Last week completed the look at the immediate causes of the Civil War, especially those connected with the institution of slavery. This week and next we will be looking at the events of the war. Today I will be posting Chapter 17 into Google Classroom along with a Google Form asking questions about section 1. Remember, this week is a short week as this upcoming weekend is Memorial Day weekend and also the end of Ramadan for those that celebrate.

Reminder about completing assignments and grades on student connect.

As we are getting down to our final 4 weeks of the school year, it is neccessary to take a moment to remind students and parents about the expectations during the online learning portion of the school shutdown since Spring Break ended. The expectation is that all students that are able to participate, should. If you are unable to participate, please reach out or respond to phone calls and emails that you have received from the teachers and staff here at OL Smith. Hi Everyone, I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day weekend and that you were able to celebrate that Mom in your life that has had a great impact on you in some way! Thanks to all the moms out there that are working so hard during the pandemic to help keep everyone moving forward. Today I want to give a quick rundown of what to expect for the week in History class and just like prior weeks I will share a link to the 8th grade calendar at the end of the rundown.

Weekly Rundown

Monday- Read Chapter 16.3 and answer the questions on the Google Form (Due Tuesday). This will be available later this morning.

Tuesday- Finish 16.3 and Question posted to Google Classroom (remember that you need to participate in at least ONE of the questions posted on Tuesday/Thursday each week to get credit for participating). Office Hours 2-3pm by sending me an email.

Wednesday- Read Chapter 16.4 AND 16.5 and answer the questions on the Google Form (Due Friday).

Thursday- Keep working on 16.4 and 16.5. ALSO: Question posted to Google Classroom (remember that you need to participate in at least ONE of the questions posted on Tuesday/Thursday each week to get credit for participating). Office Hours 2-3pm by sending me an email.

Friday- For the first time this week I will be posting a video link that summarizes much of what you read about the last 2 weeks. There will also be a Google Form with 5 questions about the video (Due Monday).

Grade Update and Missing Work

I am planning to update Student/Parent Connect with the work from the first half of last week today and tomorrow. I will update grades again later in the week for the work from later in the week last week. Also, after today and tomorrow I am no longer looking back at the work from the investigation UNLESS you email me and ask me to specificially check something you submitted.

I hope that your weekend went well! If you still have not submitted the CER, please make sure to submit that in the next few days. I will be updating the gradebook with last weeks work today and tomorrow. Below is a quick rundown of the week for US History and you will find the link to the 8th grade calendar

Weekly rundown

Monday: For today and tomorrow I am asking that students read Chapter 16, section 1 and answer 6 questions in a Google Form. Both of these resources are posted on Google Classroom and the questions should be done by Tuesday.

Tuesday: Office Hours 2-3pm. I will post a quesiton in the morning and go through responses starting at 2pm with a video response to follow later in the afternoon.

Wednesday: Chapter 16.2 Google Form Questions will be posted and due Thursday.

Thursday: Office Hours 2-3pm. I will post a quesiton in the morning and go through responses starting at 2pm with a video response to follow later in the afternoon.

Friday: 10 question review questions from the week. Due Monday of the following week.

Good Morning!

I wanted to take today to quickly explain how office hours will work for the time being (at least this week and next week). Because we are not using Google Meet any more, I will no longer be available to meet face to face. However, I can still answer questions in real time on TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS. This is done in at least two ways.

1- I will post a question that all students should respond to each Tuesday and Thursday (if they need to respond later that is allowed). If they have a question, they can write a question there as well. Starting at 2pm I will be at my computer checking their questions and responses and will respond to the questions and responses on a shared Google Doc AND I will create a short video that addresses the questions students have.

2- Send me an email with your specific question (trericm@dearbornschools.org). I answer emails whenever I can already, but on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3pm I will be at my computer ready to answer any questions. Also, you can request a phone call via the Google Voice app that I have on my phone and I can make phone calls during this time OR we can set up another time that work better!

I already have today’s question posted on Google Classroom and look forward to seeing the responses later today!

Don’t forget that the CER is due tommorrow(if you need more time, please take it and finish it up over the weekend if needed)!

Good Morning!

Office Hours today- What is the claim you are thinking of using so far?

For this week, the way office hours will work is I am going to post a question on Google Classroom like I did on Friday and ask ALL students to respond. The question today is going to ask student to share the claim that they are working on OR if they are stuck- to pose a question instead. At 2 pm when office hours officially begin I will go through the responses and share a document that has some of the claims I think are best and answers to some of the questions I think will be most helpful to have answered. My expectation is that EVERY student who is able to, should participate in the Office hours questions.

Today when logging into Google Classroom you will see the new post asking you to begin the CER. Tomorrow (Tuesday) at 2pm I will be taking questions about the current assignment on Google Classroom and will respond to them digitally in a Google Doc that I will make viewable for all students in all hours to see. I will also be posting another question on Google Classroom on Thursday. Both of these questions will be required and I will put the grade into Google Classroom each week to see that you are responding. Sometimes the questions will be very specific, sometimes the questions will be: What questions do you have?
