Printmaking Flowers
A two day process, Kindergarten learned the amazing art of printing using found or recycled objects. Day one was all about testing out what types of marks they could make using: bubble wrap, towel tubes, lime bag mesh and their sponge brush.Day two we traced, cut, glued and assembled their flowers.
Spring Chicks
Time to revisit our fine motor skills! Students carefully traced their hands to create the wings of their baby chick. If only I had taken pictures of their very first project which involved tracing their hand… the development of their fine motor skills has improved greatly. They glued the two hands together and added a circle for the head and a triangle beak.Last they added googly eyes and triangle feet.
Giraffes
Kindergarten worked on a directed drawing of a giraffe in collaboration for “The Lion King” musical. This was Kindergartens first time working on very large paper, and it was great! Day one consisted of drawing in black crayon and coloring in the giraffes spots with brown crayon. Day two the class began to paint in the rest of their artwork.
Valentine’s Color Wheel/Heart Wreath
Love is in the air and the art room! Students learned about the art tool known as the color wheel and fell in love with learning to mix colors. Our first day we focused on remembering our primary colors (we learned this during our shape monsters project) and discussed which ones to mix together as we painted our hearts in. Day two was a review on color mixing along with tracing, cutting and pasting our color wheel together.
Snow Globes Galore
Kindergarten is already preparing for the cold snowy days ahead in the art room. Students watched a video about the inventor of snow globes and learned how one mistake can make a beautiful decoration. Before beginning the project the class passed around some snow globes to try out. The best way to draw or paint something to to see and touch it beforehand!
Indian Corn Weaving
Students discussed the meaning of Thanksgiving and what activities they usually do with their family. Afterwards, an ornamental Indian corn decoration was passed around for students to see. Using the corn as inspiration the class created a basic weaving pattern to make their own decorative Indian corn.
Candy Corn Men
It’s that time of the year where candy is everywhere! Once again the class focused on their fine motor skills by cutting and pasting their project together. However, students were introduced to tracers in this project. Practice, practice and more practice. Kindergartners are becoming experts with scissors.
Shape Monsters Beware!
Kindergarten has been working on knowing and naming their shapes. Each class watched a sing along about the various basic shapes. Afterwards, students tried to identify shapes around the room and in their artwork. This project really helps to reinforce fine motor skills such as: holding/using scissors and applying glue carefully.
