Homework tonight:

1. Practice addition and subtraction flash cards (bring math bags back tomorrow)
2. Do a weekly spelling assignment- I reposted the spelling BINGO sheet last week if you had lost yours.

This week in class we are learning about the following:

ELA: Plural words (regular nouns and irregular nouns); long and short o words; fiction story elements.

Spelling:

Math: We are learning about addition and subtraction fact families- Please work on addition and subtraction with your child: he/she is bringing home their math bags.

Science: Matter: specifically measuring with rulers, measuring tapes, beakers, and measuring cups.

Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about communities. A study guide will come home next week- The test will be the first week of November.

Writing: It is our final week of narrative writing. The students are finishing their narratives that take place at their favorite location in Dearborn.

Important NOTES:

-Our second grade parent meeting is Thursday at 9:00 AM. It will end at 10:00. Please plan on joining us if possible.

-Friday is a 1/2 Day.  School gets out at 11:45

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  I am going to be posting the science notes we took this week onto the blog- some students told me they lost their notes from Tuesday so please have your child copy down the notes (or print a copy of mine) so they will have them available to study.  We have been learning about instruments that help with measurement.  Next week we will begin measuring items for our self.

1) Practice the flashcards in your math bag.  Bring the bag back tomorrow.

2) Ask your family where your meeting place is for a fire- what is your family’s plan? Check the batteries in your smoke detectors.

3) Your spelling test is tomorrow. Practice please 🙂

Hello everyone,

Today we had an anti-bullying assembly at school.  Tomorrow the Dearborn firemen and the fire truck are coming to Oakman Elementary School.  Tomorrow is the last day to bring in your $donation for the Burn Drive.  Please consider donating to this charity if you have not already.  Also, tomorrow is the last day this week you can bring in popcorn money (50 cents per bag).  Only one student has given me popcorn money so far.  NO MONEY WILL BE ACCEPTED ON FRIDAY.

Homework tonight:

1. Finish spelling tasks for the week- all 4 are due tomorrow.
2. Math PPS page 31-32 due tomorrow.  There is also a parent letter explaining what we are learning.  This does not need to come to school tomorrow.

Every student has their math test they took yesterday graded and in their backpack.  Please sign the bottom of the test and return it to school on Monday so that I know you saw it.

Coffee With The Principal Tomorrow

Dear Parents,

Please join our new Principal Mr. Abu-Rus and his staff in the cafeteria for our Title I Parent meeting this Friday, September 30th^th at 8:50 am in cafeteria.  If you didn’t meet him in August this is your chance to let him know what you like about Oakman and what changes you would like to see.

Join us as we discuss our Title I plan and see how we spend our federal funds to educate your child. It is YOUR right to know this information and YOUR right to hear how we operate. Come share ideas with us and give your input to help improve our plans for the new academic year at Oakman School. EACH YEAR OUR PLANS CHANGE so join us and see what is new. Be our partners in education and have a voice.

اجتماع الاهل والمدير

اولياء الامور الاعزاء،

يدعو مدير المدرسة السيد محمود ابو الروس والهيئة التعليمية في مدرسة أوكمن الاهل واولياء الامور للمشاركة في اجتماع المدير والاهل  وذلك نهار الجمعة الواقع في 30 ايلول\سبتمبر 8:50 صباحاً قاعة الطعام (الكافيتريا). اذا لم تسنح الفرصة لكم للتعرف على السيد ابو الروس هذه هي الفرصة للتحدث عن شؤون المدرسة وما هي التغييرات التي تودون ان تحصل فيها.

 سوف نناقش في هذا الاجتماع خطة تحسين المدرسة وكيفية انفاق اموال الحكومة الاتحادية لتعليم الطلاب.  من حق الاهل معرفة هذه المعلومات والاطلاع على كل ما يجري في المدرسة.  نأمل حضوركم لنتبادل الافكار ونسمع مقترحاتكم حول خطة تحسين المدرسة لهذا العام.  كونوا شركائنا في التعليم وفي رفع مستوى المدرسة الاكاديمي. تتغير ميزانية المدرسة كل سنة لذلك من المهم جدا معرفة التغييرات المستجدة وشاركوا في اعطاء ارائكم.
