Friday Parent Meeting Info
Friday’s Parent Meeting: STRESS MANAGEMENT
Many of you have indicated from the survey we took at the beginning of the year you would like to learn coping skills for stressful times. Join us on Friday at 8:55 am in the cafeteria for a parent meeting. The presentation’s topic will be Stress Management (How to reduce, prevent and cope with stress.) Two gift cards will be raffled at the end.
We will also be introducing our Oakman spirit school clothing line. This is NOT uniforms but rather t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies with the Oakman logo on it. You can have your child’s name put on the clothing too. Order forms will be available. Join us for some great parent time!

Lots of important things came home with your child today. 1) Report card- please sign the envelope and return it tomorrow. You may keep the report card at home- it doesn’t need to come back. 2) Your child’s math test. There are two tests stapled together- the top one is the test your child took yesterday, the bottom is the one they took 1.5 weeks ago. You can see the improvement in your child’s score. Please sign the test and return it. Many students did wonderful 🙂 3) Last week’s spelling test.
Homework tonight:
- Finish spelling activities- they are due tomorrow.
- Timeline Assignment due Friday. You may help your child- they are to pick 9 important events in their life to put on their timeline. The First should be their birthday. Each event should have the Year it happened, A short Caption describing the event, and a picture. The picture can be a real picture, a drawing, or a picture from the internet: your choice. Be creative- we will be displaying these around the room.
Students are allowed to exchange valentines next Tuesday. If you choose to send in valentines (or make valentines from paper) please send one in for every student: 28 students in total). It is not mandatory. We will make a box for them this Friday. Students can bring in an empty tissue bx from home to use OR I will provide a brown bag they can decorate if they don’t have one.
Tuesday 2/7/17
Happy Tuesday:
Today we had a wonderful assembly by Jim basketball Jones. We learned about kindness and giving our full effort 🙂
Homework today:
- Read for 20 minutes either on Myon or a book from home.
- PPS pages 297-299. This is a shape game- please have your child cut out the game squares and play the matching game with you. After they are done have them put the pieces in a small baggie and place the game in their math bag so they can bring it back to school.

Hello everyone;
I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed watching the super bowl. As I mentioned last week the students needed more time on the current math concepts (2D and 3D shapes, fact families, breaking apart numbers) so I have been reteaching for the last week. The students will retake their test tomorrow. The may use the same study guide they brought home before OR/And (in case they lost it) the math review we did today which is in their notebook in their back pack.
Homework tonight:
- Study for math test tomorrow.
- Complete a spelling activity
- Read for 20 minutes (your country books are posted on Myon under projects if you want to read more about the country you were assigned 🙂 )
Friday 2/3/17
Homework this weekend:
- Read for 20 minutes- the students were told to bring home their reading bags.
- Explore the two sites for the country project that I posted. Find 2 interesting facts about either your assigned country (or a different country) that you can share with the class on Monday.
- Each child has brought home their new NWEA scores from the winter testing. The dotted line is where we wanted your child’s score to be. If the bar is touching the line then your child made his/her goal. If the bar is above the line then he/she exceeded their goal. If your child’s score went up but did not meet their goal then we are going in the right direction but need to keep working.
The new spelling words for next week are: oil, moist, toy, royal, broil, valley, beach, plain, volcano, plateau, mountain, keep
