Welcome 2018-19 Howard Artists!

Welcome 2018-19 Howard Artists!

We are off and creating!

Pinwheels have been designed by all grade levels and assembled by the 4th and 5th grade artists!
Our annual Peace Day Celebration will be 9/26 at 9:00 am at the Peace Pole!

We are completing a community art piece based on the book The Dot. Look for it in the Howard Art Gallery located just outside the office doors into the school. Every child contributed to this unless they were absent! Ask your child if they found their 1/4 of a dot that they designed. Some of our upper el. artists are completing a 3D painted dots community piece to go along with the 2D.

This year we will celebrate a Mona Lisa Master of the Month (1 artist per grade) and an Artist of the Month (1 artist per grade), both beginning in October.

Our Van Gogh studies have begun! Watch for art to come home in October/November!

Brrrrr!

Brrrrr!

HEllo,

Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th grades are creating snowmen from different perspectives. 3rd and 5th grade students are also working on creating the illusion of volume in this lesson through the use of value.

4th grade artists should be asking about bringing a hardcover book in to be “ALTERED” – to never look or function the same again!
5th grade artists need to bring in an empty (preferred) or full tissue box to use for an architecture lesson.

ART CLUB!
If your name was drawn for the art club, we begin this Thursday at 7:45 am SHARP! Be prepared to get messy this week!!!

5th grade artists will be bringing home their Van Gogh Impressionism Sunflowers. Parents, PLEASE frame these!!!!!!!! They really are masterpieces!

Have a great week!

4th Grade Imagination in Action!

4th Grade Imagination in Action!

An alien ship has crashed into the Earth! One alien has survived! You child brought it home. The problem is, it smells odd, eats constantly, leaves the lights on, leaves a mess everywhere and needs the heat up high all the time. So, parents, you told your child it is time to send the alien home. Today, your child is creating the space ship to send your alien back to it’s home planet!

Autumn Art

Autumn Art

We have many Autumn themed arts in the works!

1st grade just completed Van Gogh Sunflower Still Lives. These are currently on display in the Howard Art Gallery and Beyond!!! They are working on mini 3D monsters currently. Next they will be creating Autumn Pointillism Collage Trees. PARENTS!!! Your child needs work with scissors. We are noticing that our 1st grade students need more practice with this. A great activity for your child would be to trace a quarter onto paper several times and practice cutting on the line. They may need your help to remember the job of the scissors hand is to open and close slowly and the job of the other hand is to “drive” or turn the paper so the scissors remain on the line.

2nd grade just completed Van Gogh Relief Sculpture Sunflowers. They have just begun 3D mini jack-o-lanterns.

3rd grade is in the midst of creating a chalk pastel sunflower still life in the style of Vincent Van Gogh. They used black glue to outline their drawing. We are taking a quick break to create “Witch Which Feet” A collage reinforcing concepts from last year.

4th grade completed Halloween sculptures. Watch for these to come home on October 31. Many are on display around the school. They are beginning a 3D Sunflower Sculpture as inspired by Van Gogh.

5th grade students have completed a 3D team-effort witch. These are on display around the school. They are beginning an impressionist painting of a sunflower still life as inspired by the works of Vincent Van Gogh.

Welcome or Welcome!

Art students grades K-5 have been creating Pinwheels for Peace! Our annual recognition of World Peace Day.
We will have the assembly on WEDNESDAY. SEPTEMBER 20, 9:00 am at the Peace Pole. (N. York and Lawrence).
It is a neat photo op.!

We are also playing the role of a professional shoe (fashion) designer! Also grades K-12! This is for National Walk to School Day! (More information to come later from Mr. Blessing).
The students are designing shoes that will accompany them on their walk to school on October 2.
If you would like a great parent-child activity to reinforce this lesson, see the attached link for a competition being offered by Blick: WEARABLE ART

Next up is our study of Vincent VanGogh and his sunflowers!

End of year wrap-up!

End of year wrap-up!

Please be watching for the amazing (I am truly serious about that!) art work coming home! Please take time to ask your child about the process and what they learned from their creations!
As the end of the year comes to a close, we are taking the art down from the halls, showcase and library shelves. If you have time, please visit the library and our Howard Art Gallery before it all comes down!

It would really be special for your child if you framed and matted their art work. You can watch Michael’s ads and go to their website for coupons for frames and mats. Often times the art can be slightly trimmed to fit standard mats/frames.
