Black Box Gallery Talk Back!!!

Black Box Gallery Talk Back!!!

This is a great opportunity to check out a new gallery in Dearborn, see great art by Dearborn art teachers and students, have a great cup of coffee from their coffee shop (I recommend the almond milk latte!) and browse their gift shop of handmade art by local artists…the leather purses are stunning!

The Talk Back, happening at 1:00 on Saturday is new to me….you will hear from the artists and have the opportunity to ask a few questions! I plan to be there and so is one of my paintings!

Non-Screen Holiday Ideas for Loads of Creative Fun!

Non-Screen Holiday Ideas for Loads of Creative Fun!

Empty Bowls was a great success! Once again, all of Howard’s bowls, created by our 5th graders were gone before the evening was over! Thank you to all who made bowls, and especially to the families in attendance of the Empty Bowls event last night at Park Place! We raised $3,560 for Gleaners and Blessings in a Backpack!

A 5th grade student brought to my attention this very cool new art tool! 3D PEN!!!!! It is probably most appropriate for older students as it does have a heating element! Here is a link to find it on Amazon –
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_4_6?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=3d+pen+for+kids&sprefix=3D+pen%2Caps%2C152&crid=1K2RSCFC4VL5P

I have not tried it yet, but trust the opinion of this student whose mother is also an art teacher!

Crayola Model Magic is a fabulous, light-weight, air-dry clay great for all ages!
Sculpey Clay is an oven-bake clay that is great for making many items with, including jewelry items. There are TONS of tutorials on YouTube for using polymer clay. It comes in sets of colors or singles.
Both can be purchased from Amazon and Michaels (watch for Michael’s 40% coupons!)

Muffalo Potato is a great YouTube Drawing Site that uses letters and numbers to teach persons of all ages to draw basic objects! All you need is paper and a drawing utensil of any kind!

Wrapping up Vincent VanGogh!

Wrapping up Vincent VanGogh!

1st and 2nd grade VanGogh artworks are hanging in the Howard Gallery. 5th grade should be done early next week and 3rd and 4th grades will be done by the end of next week. Look for 3rd-5th to be on display by the end of the month!

Parents! The 2D Impressionism art works are definitely mat and frame worthy! I hope you will cherish these masterpieces your artists are creating! They are truly beautiful! By 5th grade your child will have mastered the understanding, identifying and creating of an impressionistic style of artwork with it’s visible brush strokes.

Kinder-artists have begun using scissors! We are working on the “A” page of our art book. Then we will move into creating a Monster for “M” and a skeleton for X-ray. It would be great to have your child practicing with scissors at home by cutting on the line of shapes that they draw.

4th Week, Already!?!?!

4th Week, Already!?!?!

All students in grades 1-5 have begun learning and creating as inspired by Vincent Van Gogh!
We are all so excited that the new math curriculum has VanGogh paintings on the covers of the books!

1st and 5th grades are painting Impressionist style still lives of sunflowers.

2nd and 4th grades are creating 3D sunflowers, focusing on the characteristics of a sunflower.

3rd grades are creating a chalk pastel still life of a vase of sunflowers, applying the impressionist style to chalk pastels.

Kindergarten will be painting a sunflower in a few weeks! They have begun their kindergarten Art ABC Book that is an all-year project and will come home in the spring. We started with “F is for Family”.
