Number System:  We are writing equivalent expressions using two methods, factoring out the GCF and the distributive property.  We added these notes to our ISN and homework is to complete the handout on distributive property combo meals.  (see homework attachments for the handout)

Geometry:  We completed working on our projects for solving applied problems with complex polygons using the CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) method.

Geometry:  Students were given back their area quiz on rectangles and squares.  Retakes will be given tomorrow after school only if the score is below 75%.

We continued to work on applied problem solving with area of complex rectangles and squares.  We are using a method called CER or Claim, Evidence and Reasoning.  Students are working in groups on different problems and this will be a class project grade.  The rubric and explanation of this method is included in homework attachments.

Students were told how many minutes they have on Khan Academy so far. The final date to complete the summer learning minutes and Ilearn basic skill quizzes is Friday.

Number System:  We complete our final greatest common factor quiz.

Geometry:  We are working in groups on solving real life problems with finding area of more complex figures with squares and rectangles.  We will continue this in class tomorrow.

Homework is to complete the summer learning minutes (384) on Khan Academy and the GCF skill.

Ilearn basic skill quizzes (multiplication, division, addition and subtraction) along with Khan Academy FINAL due date is this Friday!

Sorry about the late post, I had put it on a timer and it was set on the wrong date to send out!

Number and Operations:  We continue to work on finding the greatest common factor and are becoming more fluent and progressing in scores with our short daily SLOT quizzes.

Geometry:  We worked in different groups problem solving using area.

Homework is in the textbook on page 205.  The pages are posted in the Homework attachment page in my blog.

The red and yellow groups complete numbers 20 to 29.

The green and blue groups complete numbers 10 to 18.

Optional extra credit is on page 206 numbers 35 to 37.

Number System: We shared strategies and completed a SLOT quiz on finding the GCF.

Geometry:  We completed a foldable and practice on finding area of squares and rectangles using the formula.  Homework is to complete a practice handout on finding area either through problem solving or finding area practice problems.  Students know which homework is theirs to complete.  These are located in the homework attachments page.

Geometry vocabulary quiz 1 is tomorrow, review by using the ilearn practice assessment.

Khan Academy summer learning and basic skill quizzes are due by October 7.

Homework is to complete the 3 examples in the ISN on page 13 to find the GCF using the 3 methods gcf-strategies-isn-page-13.  For reference, we created a foldable on page 14 of our ISN.

Geometry vocabulary quiz on ilearn will now be on Wednesday, not tomorrow.  We worked on a practice quiz today, you can attempt it at home as many times as you like for practice!

Khan Academy summer learning minutes will now be checked by October 7.  Remember you need to complete 384 minutes for 100%.

You will also have until Oct. 7 to complete the basic skill quizzes.  Make sure to tell me you improved on your score otherwise it won’t be updated.  You can email me as soon as that is complete so you don’t forget.

We worked on creating a list of factors to 100.  Homework is to complete this list.  To help yourself find the factors, use your ISN (divisibility rules foldable, multiplication table, prime and composite grid).

In Geometry, we experimented with angle legs to create polygons and we described geometric attributes.  The vocabulary words have been updated on the blog and ilearn.

We will have a vocabulary quiz on these words on Tuesday.  We will take a practice test on Monday and quiz Tuesday on ilearn.  Until then, use the Geometry quizlet (in iblog under Class links) to practice the vocabulary.

LAST but not least, Khan Academy Summer Learning minutes (minimum of 384 min) will be checked by September 30.  Please check your minutes and continue to work on Khan to fulfill this number of minutes!

Homework today is to complete

  1. the divisibility rules sentence stems
  2. Prime factorization practice (page c-16 handout)
  3. Geometry vocabulary definitions in ISN.  These definitions and list can be found under vocabulary page in my blog or on ilearn.

Both homework handouts are in the homework attachments page. This may seem like a lot but many students were almost complete with #1 and 2 in class so I assigned it as homework.

REMINDER:  If possible, please bring tape to class! (Book tape will work best)

For the number system, we worked on prime factorization using a factor tree and also the divisibility rules.  Homework is to complete a handout on prime factorization and the divisibility rules foldable, which is located in the ISN.  (See homework attachments)

For Geometry, we composed a brace map with attributes of polygons in our ISN.
