Mrs. Suarez's P.E Blog

Have a sunny day!

Happy Sunny Day!

What a beautiful, sunny Memorial Day Weekend!  I hope you spent some time in the beautiful outdoors!  Hopefully you were active – walking , hiking, riding a bike, swimming, jogging, skateboarding or something to get yourself moving!!

The next 2 weeks we are bowling!  We will learn about the bowling alleys, lanes, bowling balls, bowling pins and scoring.  We will learn how to grip the ball, the bowling stance and the delivery of the ball!  We will also learn about scoring.  Did you know that 3 strikes in a row is called a turkey?

We will also be playing fun bowling games:   Bowling Bingo and Fitness Bowling.

Hopefully the 5th graders will be able to use this information when they go to the Bowling Alley for their 5th grade end of the year Field Trip!

Welcome Back!

Hi, all!

Welcome back from Spring Break!  I hope you had a fun and relaxing time.  I also hope you had a chance to be active.  I did a lot of walking and running.  I also went to the batting cages to practice hitting a softball.  I’m on a softball team so I decided I needed to practice before the season started so off I went.  I had a good time and I’m glad I made the time to practice.  I do need to go again soon since the season starts next week!

This week we are testing the sit and reach in 4th and 5th grade.

We are also doing make up skipping tests for the other grades.

Have a sunny week!

Mini Martian Marathon!

What a blast!  We had so much fun at the Mini Martian Marathon this past Saturday (4/12/14)!  The weather was perfect!  There were hundreds of runners! Our race started at noon and 39 Henry Ford Runners ran 1.2 miles to complete a Marathon – that’s  26.2 miles!  I will post pictures soon! There were 4 other races going on that day.  There was a full Marathon, Half Marathon, a 10K (6.2 miles) and a 5K(3.1 miles).  I ran the 5K, which started at 8 am, which gave me plenty of time to go home, shower, change and make it back to get the Henry Ford Runners ready to run.  Even though I didn’t win my race I had a lot of fun running with so many other runners.

A BIG THANK YOU to Mrs. Spencer and Ms. McCormick for all  of their help handing out t-shirts, bandanas and race numbers.  THANKS to the Mom’s helping out, too!!

THANK YOU Parents for letting your children run in this race!  They were really excited to have you there to cheer them on!

We were so happy to see Mrs. Shupe at the race!  She brought her children to cheer on her students and all of the students at Henry Ford!

In case you didn’t know this….the t-shirts were designed by 4th Grade (Mrs. Shupe’s class) Henry Ford student Abdallah Zaidalkilanie!!!!  How exciting to see his design on all of the t-shirts!

We can’t wait for our next race!  Maybe it will be the D.E.F.F.  Unity Run!

More info. on the1st Annual D.E.F.F. Unity Run

Okay, here’s the scoop on the run!

Dearborn, Edsel Ford and Fordson High Schools are holding a Unity run: Boot Camp at Ford Field Park  (500 Monroe St.,  Dearborn,  MI, 48124) on Saturday, May 3rd.  The monies raised will support the effort of the Student Leadership Diversity Summit as well as a scholarship for students involved in Mediation, Social Justice and Anti Bullying.

The Elementary one mile run costs $15.00 and will be held at 9 am.  You should be there about an hour early to make sure you find a place to park and then pick up your t-shirt and race number.  T-shirts are included and if you have a team of 4 students, the cost is only $40.00.  That’s a savings of $5 per student!

I am not involved with this run.  Unfortunately, I won’t be able to be there, but I do think it will be fun for our students.

The link to the Registration Form is posted on the right side of this page under “class links”.
