Just get moving!  Don’t forget to get your family to play with you – what fun!!

4th and 5th graders also need to practice their sit ups for one minute!

Also…..eat some fruits and vegetables.

Hello, 4th Marking Period!

Welcome to the 4th Marking Period – the last marking period of the school year!  The marking period where we will finally be able to have P.E. Class outdoors!  We will be working on a variety of skills in each grade:

K – 2:  We will be working on skipping and throwing and with throwing also comes catching.  Compassion is the Personal/Social Characteristic of the marking period.

3rd:  Throwing and catching are the main skills we will be working on, plus a little batting.  Compassion is also the Personal/Social Characteristic for this grade.

4th and 5th:  Batting is the main skill in these grades, along with throwing and catching.  Sit ups will be practiced every gym day in order to strengthen each student’s  core muscles.  Constructive Competition, which another word for Good Sportsmanship is the Personal Social Characteristic for these grades.

What would the 4th marking period be without kick ball?  This is a great game for reviewing kicking and catching skills and for learning the rules of baseball.  4th and 5th grade will also be playing some whiffle ball.

-In Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade we are working on sliding sideways and catching fly balls.

-3rd grade is working on jumping rope and underhand strike.

-4th and 5th grades are working on underhand strike and sit & reach (this skill works on flexibility).

Kindergarten through 3rd grade are working on Cooperation and 4th & 5th grades are working  on Respect for Others.

5th Graders are working hard so they can improve their underhand strike.  The Teachers vs 5th Grade Volleyball Game is in the early spring and the 5th grade players will be chosen depending on their underhand strike skill.  Good luck!

It’s nice to see the sun out and the days are getting longer, so get outside and play!

Basketball is in the air!

All grades are working on basketball skills. Dribbling and passing are the 2 main skills that are being practiced by all grades.  Third, 4th  and 5th grades are also jumping rope, getting ready for the big test in January!

This is also the time of year for basketball at the college level.  Michigan and Michigan State (yay!)  men’s  and women’s teams have started their seasons.  I’ll be attending 3 MSU men’s basketball  games over the winter break in December.

I’ll let you know the outcomes!  This is the time of year when it’s cold outside and we want to stay in our warm home.  Well, it’s time to bundle up and get outside and get some exercise!  Walk or jog around the block.  Rake the last of the

leaves-then jump in the pile.  If it’s not snowing you can still ride your bike.  Get the snow shovels ready-shoveling snow is good exercise-especially when you can use the extra snow to make a snowman.  There are plenty of activities you can do outside, so get outside and do them.

Just an update on the Cipriano Run!  The 4th and 5th Grade Runners had a great time!  The weather was a bit cool, but it didn’t deter our Henry Ford Runners from doing their best!  Juliauna Karkaba came in 3rd Place out of all of the 5th grade girls!  Congratulations, Juliauna!Cip.
