End of Year

Wow what a busy year!

With just 5 more weeks in the school year I wanted to update information on my site.  I have updated contact info with the remind app directions.  I am going to make it my goal to update this site as well as remind weekly.  Remind will be a quick way to remind about changes in schedules or tests that are coming up.  Previously I was using class dojo but with our class constantly moving around the building it was hard to keep up with. Remind, my iblog, and email will be the best ways for communication and for you to see what we are working on in class.

Mi-Access and Testing

We have completed our state testing this month.  We will be taking the District test NWEA one last time this year in math, reading, and science. Next year we will not be taking NWEA instead we will focus on an assessment program called easy cbm which focuses more on students specific abilities.

Level Change IEP’s for 8th Grade

All level change meetings have been scheduled and completed by the end of this week.  It was great for the students to attend the meetings at the high school to meet some of their new teachers and see the building that they will be attending next year.

Grades

Please continue to check student/parent connect for missing assignments and grades. The end of the year is soon approaching and final grades will be mailed home over the summer.

Social Studies

We are finishing off the year talking about the United States Civil War

Science

We are discussing the geologic time scale.  Students are working on powerpoint presentations on different time periods.

Math

We are working on reading and creating bar graphs as well as finding the probability of events occurring. We will be working on these skills as well as counting money and addition/subtraction/multiplication/division skills.

Supplies for Next Year

A supply list has been posted on my page for next year.  During late July/August these items are usually on sale and all over the stores.  I wanted parents to have a list of items before school starts so they could take advantage of the deals this summer.

Second Card Marking

It has been so great meeting parents at parent teacher conferences!!!

Math- We have been working on plotting points in a coordinate plane and will be taking our test soon.  We will also review decimal addition and value of coins.

We have been working with number lines, positive and negative numbers, opposites, as well as temperatures.

Social Studies- We finished up the Bill of Rights unit and are moving into the political parities of America.  We will also be reviewing the difference between a country, state, and continent.

Science- We have begun talking about space and orbits.  Students have been working in groups to explore how earth revolves and rotates in space.

Lab- We spend much of lab reviewing what we learned each day.  We finish up any projects or homework that may not have been completed.  This is why you are not seeing much homework come home. However, it is still great if students read for 10-20 minutes daily or practice math facts with flash cards.
