We made it through our first full week of school!!
I continued to focus on the rules and classroom behaviors this week. It may seem that I am being tough; but if we get our behavior under control now the rest of the year will be so much smoother!
In reading this week we read several realistic fiction stories and focused on the characters, setting, problem and solution. We will continue to focus on this next week. While the students are reading to self, I have continued to assess each student on letters, sounds, and reading level. Once I have finished testing, I will send home a progress note with each student.
In writing we have been focused on narrative writing. We practiced how to introduce our story to our reader. This week we have also focused on writing and reading the letter b and d. Many students are getting these letters confused.
For math this week we have been comparing numbers. Please practice this skill at home. “You have 10 m&ms I have 5, who has more?” please also ask your child “how many more do you have than me?” The question “how many more” seems to really trick students.
Have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy the weather!
We checked out library books today! Please take time to read your child’s new book with them. Books are due back October 6th!
We made it through our second week of school and I am so happy to say that it was a WONDERFUL week!
This week in math we worked on creating and reading graphs and continued to practice counting to 100. I have assessed each student on counting and will be sending home the results on Monday.
We also made it through our first spelling test, all the students tried their best! Remember to have your child practice spelling each night as part of their homework. Graded test should be in your child’s folder tonight!
In science we worked through the scientific process as we experimented with M&Ms. Please check your child’s SeeSaw for the pictures.
Our Social Studies unit this week focused on following the rules. We also began to look at who has the power to make and enforce rules at home, in school, and in society.
Have a restful weekend!
