Students practice the critical skill of expressing mathematical relationships from real-world problems with symbolic models…These topics will be explored through a variety of means: class discussion, notes, bellwork, textbook assignments, library, internet research.

Required Materials:

Students must bring the following materials to class each day:

Two spiral notebooks, pen/pencil

  • Leave phones, CD players, and hats outside the classroom.
  • Refrain from fighting.

  • Walk in and read the board, follow directions, start the bellwork.
  • Participate and enjoy the learning experience!

  • Raise your hand to be acknowledged.
  • Be present, be on time, be on time, be on time.
  • You will lose points from a summative assignment if you use your phone in the classroom.
  • If you are tardy or late to class it is your responsibility to sign in on the tardy/late record sheet so your attendance will be changed.

Extra help:

I will be available for extra help every morning before school.

Consequences:

  • A non-verbal sign or “look” from the teacher
  • Verbal reminder of procedure or expectation
  • Loss of points from grade
  • Phone call and/or note home to parent
  • Referral to guidance counselor / administrator

Evaluation/ Grading

80% Summative – tests, quizzes, final exam, and assignments/projects that are the culmination of what you have learned and can demonstrate.

20% Formative – behavior, bellwork, homework, notes, participation, preparedness.

Your grade will be determined as the percent of the total points accumulated during the semester on an individual basis. It’s the students’ responsibility to do their best work. Plagiarized work will result in a zero for the assignment. I expect a high level of achievement from each student. Quizzes and tests will be announced in advance.

The scale of points is as follows:

Grade Percentage Grade Percentage Grade Percentage
A 93 –100 B- 80 – 82 D+ 65 – 69
A- 90 –92 C+ 77 – 79 D 60 – 64
B+ 87 –89 C 73 – 76 E Less than 60%
B 83 – 86 C- 70 – 72

Make-up Policy:

Make-up work is your responsibility (see folders on the bulletin board). If a student is absent during a test, he/she will have a short- answers test to make-up.

* I have read and discussed the classroom policies and expectations with my child.
