Weekly Spelling List
This will be our last spelling test of the year.

We will have a Social Studies test on Friday. The study sheet is coming home today. This and spelling are the homework for the week.
There is no school on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of next week because of the Eid. Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate!

Congratulations to our Batoul for winning the Poetry Contest for 2nd grade. We had many students write poems about nature for the Annual Poetry Contest.
Please send in small empty boxes like Kleenex boxes and empty toilet paper rolls. We will be using them to make things during STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) week. STEAM week is the week of Memorial Day.
There is no school on Friday, May 24 and Monday, May 27 for a long Memorial Day weekend!

It is NWEA week! We will be taking our reading test on Tuesday and our math test on Thursday. Please talk to your child about taking their time and doing their best!
Mornings and cloudy days are still quite cool. Please send your child to school with a light jacket.
Many students are forgetting to put their name on their homework. Homework with no name will not be accepted.

Bedtime
It is a tough time of year to put children to bed on time. It is lighter later. However, it is very important that children this age get enough sleep to do well in school.
Lack of sleep interferes with learning and behavior.

Time is flying by and we still have a lot to do.
Reminders
We have homework that needs to be returned the next day Monday through Thursday.
Students are expected to read at home everyday for 30 minutes.
Practicing spelling words is a daily homework as well. Students get very excited when they do well on their spelling test.
Summer is coming.
Students WILL slide backwards if they do not read in the summer. Make reading an important activity at your house. 🙂

Wow! Time is flying by! We are starting the last quarter of the school year.
Science – It is the perfect time to start our plant unit. We will be growing seeds and writing down our observations. We will plan experiments to learn about the needs of plants.
Social Studies – We will reviewing the history of Dearborn and how the city has changed over time.
Math – We will be working with equal groups to lay the foundation for multiplication and division. We will continue to review addition and subtraction.
Reading – Our end of the year goal for reading is level 28. Students need to continue to read at home every day. Please start thinking about how you will keep your child reading this summer. If students don’t read, they slide backward and will have to catch up in the fall. We are lucky to have such a wonderful library right across the street. 🙂
