A closed syllable ends in a consonant and usually has a short vowel sound.
An open syllable ends in a vowel and usually has a long vowel sound.

Friday is a half day so teachers can attend an afternoon of Professional Development. School will be dismissed at 11:45.
The next Late Start is Wednesday, October 16th. School begins at 9:40.
We will begin our Spelling program this week. The spelling words will be in your child’s planner every Monday. The test will be on Friday. Students should practice daily.

We have something new this year! Student of the Month! A Student of the Month is a good citizen, has a positive attitude toward others, is responsible, has good attendance, has a good work ethic, and has good behavior. There are many students who qualified. I am happy to announce that our September Student of the Month is Nermeen!
Monday is gym day. Please help your child remember to dress in comfortable clothes and gym shoes.
It is getting chilly in the morning. Please send a light jacket for cool morning line ups and recess.
Our next half day is Friday, October 11th.
Our next late start day is Wednesday, October 16th.
Wednesday is a late start! School will begin at 9:40.
We are continuing to learn about Matter in science and we will do an exploration to test the insulating property of different materials. We always look forward to our explorations.
We are learning about our local community in Social Studies!
We have started a measuring unit in math!

Open House is Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 6:00 – 7:30. I am looking forward to meeting you! This is a great time to see our classroom and our school. Be sure to walk around to visit our science, art, and music rooms too!
