Our spelling words this week follow the CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) pattern or the CVCV (consonant, vowel, consonant vowel) pattern.

Pattern words – cap, cape, mad, made, pan,

Dolch sight words – ask, take, as, fast, after

Please have your child write their words at home. This can be done for Monday and Wednesday homework.

Many students are reversing their letters (b for d, d for b). If a student reverses a letter the word will be marked wrong.

REMINDER – Wednesday, October 7 is a LATE START. We begin school at 9:40.

We are starting the Pizza Hut Book It Program this month. It runs through March. I have sent home a sheet to color after reading for 20 minutes a day. Our goal for the month is 500 minutes. Keep reading!

I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday and weekend! It is back to work time.

This week  I will send home homework on Tuesday and Thursday. Homework is due the next day. Reading and spelling are homework every night.

We have a short week this week so we will not have any new spelling words. I will begin adding spelling words to the blog the week of the 28th.

Students received usernames and passwords to two reading  websites, myon.com and mobymax. Have them check it out!

Today my friend Toni came to do some painting with our class. Toni is a scenic artist for the theater department at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

   Toni spoke about the color wheel, did a painting demonstration, and drew some pictures from student suggestions that the kids painted. Students also painted with watercolors at their desk. It was a busy day.

It was quite warm in our classroom today. The construction workers were cutting stone so to avoid the dust we kept the windows closed. The hallway however,  was quite cool.
