Gingerbread House Fun!

The children had a wonderful time decorating their gingerbread houses today! Thank you to Noor’s mom and Mariam’s dad for helping out today.

Friday is Pajama Day! Students may wear their pajamas to school and bring a small pillow and blanket. We will be sharing our Pilgrim books with two first grade classrooms. We will also be doing a lot of reading and playing some math games.

Friday, I will be  sending home a few worksheets to be completed during our two week break. There is also a science experiment that students will need some help with to complete. Dr. Moughni is sending home a reading log. Please have your child continue to color our classroom reading log as well.

Our spelling pattern this week is ch, sh, th, wh  at the beginning of words.

Wednesday, December 16, is a late start. School begins at 9:40.

Gingerbread Houses

We will be decorating our gingerbread houses on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00. If you would like to come in to help, please stop in the office first to sign in.  Students will have a variety of candies to use to decorate their house. It is fun to see how creative they are!!

Pajama Day

Friday, December 18th is Pajama Day. Students may wear their pajamas to school and bring a small pillow and blanket. We will have a relaxed day of reading and sharing some of the stories we’ve written.

Wednesday Homework

Good Morning,

Students have homework tonight. Their homework is to draw a map of their bedroom on the paper that I provided. They need to include a title for their map and a map key. The map key should show symbols for the furniture in their room. They can color the map. Please be sure your child has their name on their map.

December is almost here and there is a lot to do!

Class News and Reminders

November Reading logs are due on Tuesday, December 1. Our reading goal is 500 minutes a month.

Picture retake day is Monday, December 7th. If you would like your child’s picture retaken, please send in the complete picture package.

Wednesday, December 16th is a late start.

Our weekly spelling pattern is long o spelled ow, oe, and oa.

Pattern words – know, low, toe, road, coat

Sight words – want, came, will, saw, eat

We are continuing our science unit about water. We are learning about uses of water, where to find water on Earth,  how water flows, and the three states of water.

In math, we will be writing numbers in expanded notation, writing numbers on a number line, and adding double digit numbers. Please continue to practice counting patterns by  5’s, 10’s and 100’s.

We will also continue practicing counting coins and telling time.

It’s almost here!

Everyone is so excited about our Thanksgiving plays! We were busy on pajama day getting the backgrounds ready as shown in the pictures below.

We will be presenting three short plays,  The Mayflower, A Native American Welcome, and A Friend of the Pilgrims,  tomorrow at 10:00 and again at 1:00.

News for the Week of November 16th

Our class is going to the Scholastic Book Fair on Monday morning. If students forget to bring their money, they can go to the Book Fair later in the week. Please remember that tax will be added to the purchases.

Wednesday, November 18th, is a late start. School will begin at 9:40 instead of 8:40.

Parent Conferences are Wednesday, November 18 and Thursday, November 19. Please check your child’s folder for a reminder note.

Friday, November 20 is Pajama Day!  Students may wear their pajama’s to school. They may also  bring a small stuffed animal.

Please keep an eye on the weather to be sure your child will be warm enough at morning line up and lunch recess.
