We are so excited to present the 2nd Grade Concert to you on Friday, December 16, at 2:30 in the main cafeteria. Please be on time and remember to turn off your cell phones.

We will be decorating gingerbread houses on Wednesday, December 21st, beginning at 1:15. You are welcome to come in and help.  I will be sending a note home with more information.

We will be taking a “Mad Minute” each Friday in class, with the goal to improve  our personal speeds and accuracy of our basic addition facts. There are a lot of websites that would be appropriate for this practice, as well as the traditional flashcards. Automaticity in math facts is fundamental to success in many areas of higher mathematics (and third grade). We are starting with addition facts to 10 and then will increase the difficulty level.

Wednesday, December 21st, is a late start. School begins at 9:40.

We will be doing a variety of science explorations that involve water. Please allow your child to “play” in the sink with plastic measuring cups and spoons. I received  14 out of 27  November reading logs. Please keep your child accountable for their daily reading by having them color the picture  when they have read for 20 minutes.

Time and Money

Our math unit is all about time, money, and place value.  Many children do not know the names of the coins or their values. Please let your child sort real coins and practice naming the coins.   I have added a few math game links here on the blog for coin practice, time practice, and place value.
