Monday, we will be participating in  a district initiative called Care to the Core Day!  All of the Dearborn schools will be doing  various activities to show that we “Care to the Core”.  We will be doing an activity in class to talk about how kindness can spread with each one of us by doing simple things.  Here is the district website relating to Care to the Core Day. https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/responsetobullying/

I hope everyone stayed warm and dry this weekend.

It looks like we will have more rain and cold weather this week. I know once we have a warm day the kids think they don’t need coats anymore. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. 

Weekly Spelling Words

Contractions – these are challenging

Pattern words – didn’t, can’t, they’ve, we’ve, she’ll, we’ll, he’s, she’s, wouldn’t, couldn’t 

Sight words – help, from, other, also, job 

SNACK – Our fresh fruit and vegetables snack will be ending on Thursday, April 20. Please send in a healthy snack daily if possible. Our lunch time is at 12:30 so we have a bit of a long morning. 

The Pizza Hut Book It program ended but students are still responsible for reading daily for 20 -30 minutes and coloring their reading calendar each day they read.

This week we will be starting a new Math unit on measurement. We will be using several different kinds of measuring tools such as rulers, yardsticks, and measuring tapes. 

We will also be starting our new Science unit on plants and living things. 

Social Studies is all about local history. We will be comparing the past to how we live now. Please share how things have changed over the years in our community. 

Spring pictures will be taken on Friday, April 13th.

March is Reading Month comes to an end but we keep on reading!

We will have our fraction math test on Wednesday. A study guide will come home on Monday. 

We will have our How Do People Work Together in a Community test on Thursday. A study guide will come home on Monday. Please read through it with your child daily. 

We will not have school on Friday, March 30 – April 6. We return to school on Monday, April 9. Dr. Moughni will send home a reading log for spring break. Students should be reading everyday anyway so why not keep track of the minutes read?

Weekly Spelling Words

We are looking forward to our field trip to the Marquis Theater in Northville  on Thursday morning. We will be seeing the play, The Velveteen Rabbit. It is a live performance with adult and children actors. I can only take two parents on this trip and they are Amin’s mom and Marym A.’s mom.

Other parents are welcome to come to the Historical Museum on Monday, March 26. Parents must have a  volunteer form on file in the office to attend these trips. 

We will take a trip to the Jiffy Mix factory in May. 

Time is really flying by this year. We are starting the 4th quarter of school on Monday.  Just a reminder that homework is due the next day. Spelling practice and reading are daily homework. 

Spring Break is coming up soon. We will not have school on Friday, March 30 – April 6. We return to school on Monday, April 9. Dr. Moughni will send home a reading log for spring break. Students should be reading everyday anyway so why not keep track of the minutes read? 

I hate to keep asking but we are out of Kleenex again. If you have not sent any in yet and you can spare a box, we would appreciate it. Thank you.

Friday’s snow day was a surprise! I hope everyone had a good day! 

Field trip notes (please sign both sides of the note) and $5.00 are due tomorrow please. 

We will have our spelling and math test tomorrow morning.

LITERACY NIGHT – WILD ABOUT READING – Tuesday, March 6, from 5:00 – 6:30. There will be many fun reading activities for the children. It is an exciting night!!

The Pasta for Pennies fundraiser has begun.    We are going to be collecting donations for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society throughout the month of March.

Students will bring home donation boxes tomorrow. If you would like to give on line, here is the link for our class

Classroom News from Room 211

What nice weather we have had for two days. Back to rain and possible snow tomorrow so please remind your child to wear their warm coat. 

FIELDTRIPS 

Please sign both sides of the field trip note. I was saving paper and put both permission slips on the same paper. Please send in $5.00 for the Dearborn Historical Museum trip and the permission slips by Monday, March 5. 

There is a PTA Popcorn Sale, $0.50 per bag. Money is due by Thursday. 

MARCH IS READING MONTH!  A March is Reading Calendar came home today. Check it out! 

The Henry Ford Literacy Night is Tuesday, March 6 from 5:00 – 6:30.  There will be many fun activities for the kids. 

The PTA is having a Scholastic Book Fair next week for March is Reading Month. We will be going on Wednesday morning. I will send the flyers home tomorrow. 

February Reading logs are due tomorrow, March 1.
