The pattern this week is long and short o words. The short o words have 3 letters (CVC, consonant, vowel, consonant) the long o words have an e at the end of the word (CVCe).

The Dolch words are a  list of  220 words  that must be quickly recognized in order to achieve reading fluency.

Pattern – not, note, hop, hope, fox, box, mop, pop, cone, bone

Dolch – cold, open, own, old, hold

Homework

Daily homework is reading for 20 -30 minutes, practicing spelling words, and any math pages that come home.  Students who are bringing word cards home in their reading bags need to practice those too please. Thank you for helping your child remember to bring their homework folder, reading bag, and planner everyday.

I would like to encourage you,  if you are able, to attend the Monthly Henry Ford Parent Meeting tomorrow at 9:00 am. There is always great information provided and coffee too!

Classroom News from Room 211

Good Morning!

This is our first full week of school. It is really important that students are get enough sleep every night. Second graders need 10-12 hours of sleep each night  and should be going to bed by 8:30 to get  a good nights sleep. Many students lay their heads on their desks during the school day. A bedtime routine will help students calm their bodies and minds to get ready for sleep. The bedtime routine can include reading before bed.

Weekly Spelling Words

This week we will have 15 words on our spelling list. Students should be studying their words daily at home as part of their homework.

Pattern words – cap, cape, hat, hate, at, ate, mad, made, tap, tape

Sight words- ask, take, as, fast, after

The Henry Ford Open House is Thursday, September 13, from 6:00-7:30.  Hope to see you there!
