NWEA Testing this Week
We will be taking the NWEA Reading test on Tuesday morning and the NWEA Math test on Thursday morning. There are about 56 questions on each test. We will take a short break half way through. Please talk to your child about taking their time and doing their best on the test. Also, please make sure your child gets enough sleep and eats a good breakfast so they can be well rested and ready the morning of the test.
Every now and then I will share a math game with you that would be easy to play at home. The supplies needed can be found at the dollar store.
COUNTING ON CARD GAME
By Terri Thompson
In Counting On: The Card Game, we’re practicing the basic skill of counting on (counting beginning at any number other than one).
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Deck of cards with the Jacks, Queens, Kings, and Jokers removed
Dice (1 or 2)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Shuffle and place the cards face down on the table. Player one flips over the top card and starts a discard pile.
Next the first player will throw the dice. Their challenge is to start counting from the number shown on the card and count on the number of times shown on the dice.
If you flip over a 3 and roll a 6 you would start with 3 and count on 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. 3 + 6 =9
Take turns flipping over a card and counting.
There is no winner or loser in this game. It’s just simply a turn-taking game.
