HOMEWORK
I will be sending home homework for the break. The math homework will concentrate on basic facts and fact families and pattern counting (counting by 10’s and 100’s). Many students are struggling in both areas. These skills need to become automatic. Practice doesn’t need to be tedious, just a few minutes a day. Students can practice math facts with flash cards, on the computer(math flashcard sites), or with card games (addition top it).
Have a safe and happy break!!
A few parents have sent in supplies. Thank you!
We are all set with Smarties, Skittles, and Fruit Loops.
We are in of need 7 more containers of vanilla frosting, gum drops, and marshmallows. Thanks again.
Tomorrow is gym day. On days your child wears snow boots to school, please have them bring a pair of tennis shoes to change into. Thank you!
I hope everyone can get out and enjoy the snow. It is great for making a snowman!

We will be taking a “Mad Minute” each Friday in class, with the goal to improve our personal speeds and accuracy of our basic addition facts. There are a lot of websites that would be appropriate for this practice, as well as the traditional flashcards. Automaticity in math facts is fundamental to success in many areas of higher mathematics (and third grade). We are starting with addition facts to 10 and then will increase the difficulty level.

When you are out and about in the city of Dearborn with your child please point out businesses, government buildings, parks, etc.
Science – We are learning about the uses of water, water in its liquid and solid state, water conservation and the properties of water. We will be doing a variety of science explorations that involve water. Please allow your child to “play” in the sink with plastic measuring cups and spoons.
