Weekly Spelling Words!

We are continuing with our cvc and cvce pattern with o this week.

Pattern words – hop, hope, fox, pop, cone

Sight words – cold, open, own, old, hold

Thursday is library day. Please help your child remember to bring their two library books to school.

Reading testing is done. Many students reading levels are lower than they were in the spring. It is very important that students are practicing their reading skills at home as well as in school. We have a lot of ground to make up. Our reading level goal for the end of second grade is level 28.  If we work together, we will get there.      Image result for children reading

Please encourage your child to read for 20 minutes each day, then color in the pumpkin on their reading log. I received 11 out of 26 reading logs for September.

I will send home reading information later in the week.

It is jacket time! The mornings will be quite chilly this week. Please be sure your child is dressed for the weather. We go outside everyday weather permitting.

Sight words – his, ride, if, him, into

The students will get an additional 5 words on the test that follow the pattern  to see if they can generalize the concept.

September Reading logs are due on Monday, October 3. Students brought home a Pizza Hut Book It Calendar for October. Students should color a pumpkin for each day they read 20 minutes. If students reach their reading goal, which is 20 minutes a day (600 minutes), they will receive a Pizza Hut coupon for a free personal pan pizza.

We will continue with number patterns this week as well as comparing two numbers in math. One of our goals is to have students be able to explain their thinking in math.

Homework will be coming home 4 days a week starting Monday. It may be a worksheet reinforcing something we have learned or a math game. Students need to continue to read and practice their spelling words daily.

Students have two websites available to them through the school district. They are myon.com and mobymax.com. These are available on the student resource page at the district website https://dearbornschools.org/resources/students. Students log in is their student number and their password is their birth date.
