SUMMER READING – Many students started second grade with a lower reading level than they left with in the spring of first grade. This is called “summer slide”. Here is an article that gives parents ideas for preventing summer slide. Please read it and consider ways (going to the library weekly, buying books at garage sales, going to the bookstore) of preventing summer slide for your child.

We are back to chilly mornings. Please help your child to remember their coat.

WEDNESDAY IS A LATE START.

We are starting to work on our fairy tale plays this week. We will present them on Tuesday, May 24, at 10:00 and 2:00.

We had a very nice field trip to the Jiffy Mix Factory. Students made the connection to what we were learning in social studies by talking about the capital, human, and natural resources they saw.

Thank you to all the chaperons who took time from their day to join us.

I have begun talking  to the class about the importance of reading this summer.

I am really proud of the class and how much progress they have made in reading this year. Please keep them reading this summer so they don’t spend the fall “catching up”.
