Sign Language

At school we work on basic sign language to encourage our students to start using their voice.  Watch the YouTube videos below to learn how to sign letters and colors. Encourage your child to sign and sing along!

Early Math Skills

In school we are working on sorting objects by color, shape, and size!

Ways to work on sorting at home:

  • Put away silverware
  • Sort laundry by type – shirts, socks, pants
  • Sort legos by color
  • Sort colored cereal or goldfish crackers
  • Sort coins by type
  • Sort playing cards by color, suit, or number

*you know your child best – pick the activity that is most appropriate for them*

Letter of the Week

Our letter of the week is the letter U!

Letter U activities:

  • Encourage your child to try to make the letter U sound
  • Find things around the house that start with the letter U
  • Write the letter U and then have you child trace over it with different colors

Our word of the week is “under”

To practice this word at home:

  • Put objects under a table or cup and ask your child, “What is under the table?”

Movement Monday

It’s Monday again and you know what the means…Double gym day! Has your child been getting exercise?

Here are some ideas to get your child moving today:

  • Ice skate with paper plates.  Put a paper plate under each food and slide around the house
  • Put on a fashion show and dance down the runway
  • Make a maze! Use chalk outside or tape inside to make lines to follow
  • Puddle jump! Place blue paper on the ground and jump over the puddles

Fine Motor Friday!

On a normal Friday at school we practice our fine motor skills.

Here are some ideas you can try at home today to practice refining your child’s skills:

  • Turn pages of a book – one at a time
  • Finger paint
  • Complete a tracing worksheet I sent home in your packet
  • Peel and place stickers

Check out the video below for more ideas of things you can do with items from around your house!
