PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our letter of the week was the letter “D”.  We read an interactive letter book, sang letter D songs, stamped the letter, and glued down pictures that start with the letter D to dog bone, and traced a dinosaur
  • Our core vocab word of the week was the word “down”.  We went down the slide, danced to songs where we had to stand up then sit down, or fall down, we pushed down doors on cause and effect toys, and sat down in our seats
  • We read many books including 1, 2, 3 Walk and See, Hello Pumpkin, and Five Little Bats Flying in the Night
  • The children practiced counting by rolling a die, counting up the dots and then putting that many keys on a ring
  • We made a candy corn art project during which we practiced using scissors
  • The students used orange paint to paint pumpkins after we read a color book all about the color orange

Newsletter for the Week of September 23rd

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our letter of the week was the letter “C”.  We read an interactive letter book, sang letter C songs, stamped the letter, and glued down pictures that start with the letter C to a cookie sheet
  • Our core vocab word of the week was the word “can”.  We talked about all the different thing we ‘can’ do and then showed off our skills!
  • We read many books including Dear Zoo, Goodnight Gorilla, and Hedge Hugs Autumn
  • Ms. Staci worked with the students one on one
  • The children practiced counting by rolling a die, counting up the dots and then feeding our monkey toy that many bananas
  • We read a book about going to the zoo and graphed the animals we were most excited to see
  • The children worked putting zoo animal puzzles together
  • We went to the zoo!!

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our letter of the week was the letter “B”.  We read an interactive letter book, sang letter B songs, stamped the letter, and glued down pictures that start with the letter B to a bee hive
  • Our core vocab word of the week was the word “big”.  We sorted object by big and small, read a book with a voice output device, and listened to songs with the word big
  • We played on the playground and took walks after lunch
  • We read many books including Mouse Paint, If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, and What Makes a Rainbow
  • The children drew in their journals
  • Ms. Staci came in and did sensory and fine motor activities with us.  We got to swing on the therapy swing and crawl through tunnels
  • The children practiced sorting by color by scooping up crabs with a shovel and dumping them in the matching colored bin
  • We worked on identifying the first letter in our names by decorating them with stickers
  • The children practiced counting by rolling dice, counting what number it landed on, then they counted out that many keys to put on a key ring
  • We finger painted with blue and yellow to make green just like in Mouse Paint

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our letter of the week was the letter “A”.  We read an interactive letter book, sang letter A songs, stamped the letter, and glued down things that start with the letter A to an apple tree
  • Our core vocab word of the week was the word “All”.  We sang songs with the word “all” such as “Wheels on the Bus” and “We all Fall Down”, we took turns putting all the pegs in the jar, and we read a book during which the students used a voice output device to read the word “all”
  • We practiced counting and number recognition with an interactive back to school counting book and for each item we counted on the pages we stacked that many blocks
  • We played on the playground
  • We read many books including Five Little Monkeys Reading in the Bed, The Napping House, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
  • The children drew in their journals for the first time
  • Ms. Staci came in a did sensory activities with us such as the steam roller and bouncing on the exercise ball
  • We practiced shape recognition with a touch and feel book and shape puzzle
  • We reviewed school rules and created a chart of things we do and don’t do at school
  • The students practiced eating with utensils at lunch and washing their hands at the sink

Week of September 3rd

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our theme this week was apples!
  • We read Ten Apples Up on Top during which we practiced using the word “on”, stacking Legos (we used them as our apples), counting, and making patterns
  • The students made apple marble paintings that are hanging in the hall outside our classroom
  • We practiced counting and number recognition with an interactive back to school counting book
  • The children worked on sorting by color
  • We played on the playground every day!
  • The class conducted a science experiment to see if an apple would sink or float.  Everyone had a turn to make a prediction
  • We read an interactive color story and then the students picked their favorite color crayon to color with
  • The students practiced their fine motor skills by cutting a paper apple with their name on it and gluing it back together.  We also worked on identifying the letters in our name during this project
  • We read many books including Pete the Cat: I love my White Shoes and Who Took the Cookies from the Cookie Jar

Breakfast & Lunch

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Dearborn Public Schools will be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for the School Year 2019-2020. All students enrolled at our school can receive a healthy breakfast and lunch and NO CHARGE.

We will still need your household to FILL OUT AND SIGN THE HOUSEHOLD INFORMATION FORM. This is CRITICAL in determining the amount of money our our school receives from State and Federal supplemental programs. All information submitted on the forms is confidential. Forms will be coming home this week.

Welcome Back!

We had a great first week of school! The students eased back into our routine by playing on the playground, creating a bus out of torn paper, working with the first letters in their names, practicing their fine motor skills, and listening to stories such as “Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes.”
