Newsletter for the Week of December 9th

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our letter of the week was the letter “M”.  We read an interactive letter book, sang letter M  songs, stamped the letter, and glued down pictures of items that start with the letter to a mitten
  • Our core vocab word of the week was the word “more”.  The students requested more food at meal time and for Ms. Ashley to blow more bubbles
  • We read many books including Count Down to Christmas, Eight Jolly Reindeer, and Merry Christmas, Splat!
  • The children made cookies with Mrs. Gallery, our speech therapist
  • The students who brought money for the Holiday shop went shopping with Mrs. Kim and then wrapped their gifts for their family members
  • We practiced matching shapes with puzzles and shape sorters
  • The students worked on color recognition with our felt tree and colored felt ornaments
  • We learned about the different things we can see during the day vs at night
  • The children colored in their journals

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our letter of the week was the letter “L”.  We read an interactive letter book, sang letter L  songs, stamped the letter, and glued down pictures of items that start with the letter to leaves
  • Our core vocab word of the week was the word “like”.  We talked about things we like such as foods and toys
  • We read many books including One, Two, Buckle my Shoe, A Very Special Snowflake, and Ten Playful Penguins
  • The children made cookies with Mrs. Gallery, our speech therapist
  • We sponge painted snowmen that are hanging in the hall outside our room
  • The students listened to the story, Snowmen at Night, and then got to tell the class what they would do if they were a snowman at night
  • We practiced counting and number recognition with a Christmas counting book.  For each item on the pages we read we stacked that many blocks
  • On Friday we got to have extra gym time! It was nice to get some extra movement into our day

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our letter of the week was the letter “K”.  We read an interactive letter book, sang letter K  songs, stamped the letter, and glued down pictures of items that start with the letter to kites
  • Our core vocab word of the week was the word “kick”.  We kicked balls and bubbles
  • We read many books including There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Pie and Turkey Trouble
  • The children practiced color identification with a turkey color book and matching game
  • We made brownies with Mrs. Gallery. Everyone had a turn to help in some way
  • The children listened to a story being thankful and then wrote about what they are thankful for
  • We worked on our fine motor skills by scooping with shovels, working on puzzles, and putting different objects in jars with different openings

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our letter of the week was the letter “J”.  We read an interactive letter book, sang letter J  songs, stamped the letter, and glued down pictures of items that start with the letter to jewels
  • Our core vocab word of the week was the word “jump”.  We jumped on the trampoline and jumped over small objects in the classroom
  • We read many books including Giggle, Giggle, Quack, and One, Two, Buckle my Shoe
  • The children practiced color identification with a turkey color book and matching game
  • We practiced counting and number recognition with a key ring game
  • We also practiced counting and subtracting with a 5 Little Turkey poem
  • The children worked on their fine motor skills by coloring in the journals, working on puzzles and other fine motor activities such as the peg board and lacing
  • The students practiced their book handling skills during read to self time at the end of each day
  • We welcomed a new student to our class.  Welcome to Snow, Mira!

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our letter of the week was the letter “I”.  We read an interactive letter book, sang letter I  songs, stamped the letter, and glued down pictures of items that start with the letter to an island
  • Our core vocab word of the week was the word “in”.  We put pegs in a jar, threw bean bags into a basket, and danced to the hokey pokey putting our body parts in the middle
  • We read many books including Mouse’s First Fall, The Pigeon has to go to School, and Let it Fall
  • The children practiced shape identification, number recognition and counting with a shape turkey craft that we hung in the hallway outside our classroom
  • We practiced counting and number recognition with a hedgehog game.  We took turns rolling a die, counting the number of dots, finding the number on a flash card, then putting that many spikes into the hedgehog
  • The students worked on identifying the first letter of their name with our class book then decorated their letter with a bingo marker
  • We worked on our fine motor skills with puzzles, legos, lacing, pegs, and nuts and bolts
