Accessing Report Cards for Card Marking #3 – DIRECTIONS

Good Evening,
The Elementary Report Cards for Marking Period 3 are available to parents in ParentConnect.
The report cards (in pdf format) will show in the Marks Tab as follows:

Following is some information for administrators on how parents can access report cards data in MIStar ParentConnect and how schools can help parents with login info if parents can’t login. Please note that if a parent uses ParentConnect, he/she should be able to see data for all their students and do not require separate logins for the different schools.

1. How do parents login to ParentConnect? To login to ParentConnect, parents need their PIN and password; there are 2 options to get this information.Option 1 (Screen below – Recommended): Parents go to Dearborn Schools web site then ParentConnect link. If they don’t know the login info, they click (Need Your Login Information) link and it will prompt them to enter their email address as provided to the school and entered in MIStar (Menu/Enrollment/Student Editor/Contacts) and click Submit. This process emails them their PIN and Password.

Option 2 (Screen below): If parents are unable to receive the email (no email, etc), then administrators need to provide the info, administrators can access MIStar Menu / System / ParentConnect Manager / Contacts Passwords as indicated below. Even though Option 2 is available for administrators, Option 1 is recommended because parents have to login to their email to retrieve the info and you can always add the email in Student Editor/Contacts if missing.

Statement Regarding Possible School Closure For The Remainder of the 2019-20 School Year #Students1stDbnSchs

Recent media reports indicate that within the next few days Governor Whitmer will most likely announce the closure of all school buildings for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.  This news has raised questions, concerns, and a variety of emotions from parents, students, and staff in the Dearborn Public Schools.

The District will wait for official word from the Governor before taking a position regarding this news. Governor Whitmer is a strong supporter of public education in Michigan and we are confident her plan will provide details allowing school districts to address questions and concerns at the local level.

I want to assure our community that since the State closure of schools on March 16, we have been working on both short and long term plans to address how the district will operate for the remainder of the school year.  Graduation, SAT testing, eligibility for special programs, the third grade reading law, and kindergarten round-up are just a sample of the topics that have been part of our planning and discussions.

We understand the emotions this uncertainty has created over these past few weeks. Although we are limited on the decisions we can make at this time, and much of what we can respond to depends on the actions coming out of Lansing, we hope that by providing continuous communication our stakeholders will be assured that we are planning for the future of the district and the educational needs of our students.

Stay Home, Stay Safe Order

Good Evening,

As many of you know, this morning Gov. Whitmer issued a Stay Home-Stay Safe order.  We want to update what this means for the schools.

1.Schools will now be closed THROUGH April 13.  We were planning to return that day, but now are scheduled to return Tuesday, April 14.  Obviously, that could change as the situation evolves.

2. Free meal distributions will continue during the shelter-in-place period.  Providing food is an “essential service.” In fact, we now are planning to extend the meal distribution through our spring break, so food will be handed out Monday to Friday through at least April 13.

3. Online learning will continue.  While current state law says the learning cannot count as “seat time,” Gov. Whitmer has clarified that “does not mean that school work done during the mandatory school closure won’t ‘count’ toward grades, credits, or graduation.”  (Teachers and students are still officially scheduled for spring break from April 6-10, so there might be a week off during your weeks off.)

4. Some of our Operations Staff including Engineers and Custodians are considered essential workers so that we can continue to operate our food service program, essential building maintenance, and deep cleaning as deemed necessary by the Director of Operations.

We will continue to work to keep you posted on changes.  Meanwhile, please stay safe out there everyone.

Sincerely,

Glenn Maleyko and the District Crisis Team.
