Bi-Weekly Spelling and Vocabulary for 10/07 – 10/18
TEST IS 10/18
1.particles – a minute portion of matter.
2. substance – a particular kind of matter with uniform properties
3. exponent– a quantity representing the power to which a given number or expression is to be raised, usually expressed as a raised symbol beside the number or expression.
4.algorithm– a procedure, a description of a set of steps that can be used to solve a mathematical computation.
5. horizontal– the opposite of vertical, something horizontal is arranged sideways, like a person lying down.
6. inference– a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning.
7.determine– ascertain or establish exactly, typically as a result of research or calculation.
8. context clues– hints that the author gives to help define a difficult or unusual word. The clue may appear within the same sentence as the word to which it refers, or it may follow in a preceding sentence.
9. exchange– an act of giving one thing and receiving another (especially of the same type or value) in return.
10. exploration– the action of traveling in or through an unfamiliar area in order to learn about it.
