Heading Into The Final Stretch

As we prepare for the final weeks of the school year, we would ask parents and students to check Parent Connect, Student Connect and the Learning Calendar for any assignment updates. If you have questions or need clarification on an assignment or how to navigate through anything, please reach out us. Our emails are located on the Smith website. We look forward to continuing to support you and your family during this time.

If you are an 8th grade family, we have something nice planned for the high school Class of 2024. Check your email and postings next week! Oh, if you have not submitted your child’s baby photo, please email to me by next Tuesday (a baby photo & a recent photo). Instructions were sent to all students via Google Classroom. Ms. Elder, Counselor

Dear World, From Smith Students

Dear World, Rethink everything before doing anything. Some things may go down but always rethink things. I need to get off my phone more often. for the future 6th graders, have friends and have fun. When my kids come home and complain about simple things, I will tell them everything will be fine. What small thing I did to help during this time was I helped my mom to clean the house, watch the dog and her kids and helped her cook. Maha A. OL Smith 6th Grader

Dear World, What I think of sacrifices is that at times you need to make sacrifices for others. What I will tell my family in 25 years when they read about us in history is that sometimes it’s appropriate to make sacrifices when you are needed to.  What I want front liners to know is sometimes people make sacrifices. Dear World, From Smith Students

What I think of your sacrifices… America couldn’t have made it if it wasn’t for the doctors, nurses, teachers, police, family, fire department and many more. We are very thankful for everything they do to protect us. What I will remember of your sacrifice, it helped a lot by listening and staying safe and protected my family. What I will tell my family in 25 years when they read about us in history that this was a very hard time for everybody and people had to stay home to stay safe. We couldn’t even go to school and all the world just stopped because of this virus. What I want front liners to know is that they help out a lot of people and we couldn’t do it without them. When my kids come home and complain about simple things, I will tell them… that some kids don’t have what we have and we are lucky. What small thing I did to help during this time – I.e.: stop whining, cook dinner, pray for…., check on my grandmother/neighbor who lives alone, post a message on Instagram for the doctors & nurses.  I helped out with chores and prayed that all this is over soon and everyone is safe and healthy. Dear World, From Smith Students

I want to thank my mom and my brother for being on there saving lives. I also will remember all the teachers are doing to help us with online school. I will tell them that when I was in 6th grade our school closed in March and we didn’t have school until next year. I want frontliners to know that it’s harder to work from home than at work but the ones who do have to work or sacrifice themselves I want to thank them.I will tell them at least you don’t have to wear gloves and masks in public or do homework at home and have to stay in our house for a month. I stop whenever on the news I see another person in the hospital I pray for them. 6th Grader- C. E.

Dear World, From Smith Students

I will always remember this time that everything changed over night.  I woke up in the morning to get ready for school on March 12, 2020 and my mom told me that I can go back to sleep because school is cancelled due to the corona-virus.  That was when everything started to change.  All of a sudden we couldn’t go anywhere and only my mom would leave to get groceries.  I started to see the world changing day by day, more and more of the unknown.  We prayed for the doctors, nurses, sick people, elderly, grocery store workers.  Things that we took for granted closed, people lost their jobs, and then the worst started happening, more and more people were dying every day. I feel sad, and worried that things will never be the same.  I feel like this will be the new way of life.  I believe that everyone made sacrifices and the doctors, and all of the healthcare professionals are heroes. M. E., Smith 6th grader.
