Dear World, From Smith Students

The Best Year of my life

What I think of your sacrifices – I loved this school year because I made so many new friends this year that I am planning on keeping for the rest of my life. What I will remember of your sacrifice- I will remember our very fun fall festival and assembly and all my good memories with all my friends at Nowlin. thank you so much for this amazing school year. What I will tell my family in 25 years when they read about us in history- I will tell my family in 25 years how much of a memorable year this was that I  started off with being the shy kid in a wheelchair into a girl that is confident and walking again. What I want front liners to know- This is one of the best years and grades you can ever have and you will make so many new friends. When my kids come home and complain about simple things, I will tell them… Things will get better one day once you grow up and meet a whole bunch of people who will change your life. OL Smith Middle 6th Grader- I. W.

Dear world, Twenty five years ago my world changed, and it was scary!  I came home from school one March day and didn’t return back the rest of the year.  Worst part, we couldn’t leave the house and hang out with our friends. We had to stay home to protect ourselves from the coronavirus.  People were dying at a rapid rate. I was scared someone I  cared about would die. Every time my mom went to the store I was afraid she would get the virus. We had to leave the house wearing a mask and gloves. We could only play with the people who lived in our houses.  Our trip to Florida was cancelled.  We weren’t even able to see our own family members, because it wasn’t safe for any of us.  Everything changed,  everything!  Smith 6th grader, C.S.

Dear World, From Smith Students

Dear World, What I think of your sacrifices I think the sacrifices were hard but not that difficult. I did get bored sometimes though and I missed going to the mall or a restaurant. It wasn’t life threatening to stay at home. I did get bored a lot though and I missed my friends and school. You think you don’t like school but when you are away from it so much you start to miss it. And it’s also hard to do online work and because it is distracting from when in a classroom . Having to wear a mask when in the stores was tough.  It gets hard to breath through a mask and so many holidays passed by during the quarantine and we couldn’t have a big celebration because of the corona virus.  OL Smith 6th Grader K.C.

Dear World, What I think of your sacrifices, your time and energy to take care of me. What I will remember of your sacrifice was my parents’ hard work. What I will tell my family in 25 years when they read about us in history, tell them all about the things I learned and did with them. When my kids come home and complain about simple things, I will tell them I was in quarantine during a pandemic. OL Smith Middle School 6th Grader, A. A.

Dear World, From Smith Students

Dear World, 6th grade overall was really interesting because it was my first year at O.L. Smith and being in middle school. I was nervous, but it turned out to be a breeze! I love all my teachers, and my favorite subject is Math with Mr. Z. I really enjoy science and geography etc.  2020 has been a year for the books! This chapter is HEFTY, and it’s only May! January was hard because Kobe died, he was one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Then in March, COVID-19 came to the US. By the middle of the month the schools shut down and everyone went on lock down! It’s been about 75 days and things are starting to look better. I’m getting bored and totally need a haircut, but I am happy that everyone I love is safe. This week my grandma got diagnosed with cancer, and that has been heavy on my heart. It’s 2045 now, and hopefully we have learned enough from 2020 to not repeat the same mistakes!  Truly, L.S.

Dear World, From Smith Students

Dear World, When my kids come home and complain about simple things, I will tell them not to complain about simple little things because they should spend their time being happy and having fun.  Life is so short and complaining about simple things won’t matter in the future so why do it at all think about the positive sides to things. Signed – OL Smith Middle School 6th Grader J. H.

Dear world, What I will tell my future family about what happened in 2020 is that a lot of bad things happened like almost starting World War III,Kobe Bryant died, and how bad the corona virus was. What small thing I did to help is, help my mom with the dishes and help my brother and sister with their online work. 6th Grader, A.S.

Dear World, From Smith Students

Dear World, When my kids come home and complain about simple things, I will tell them… I had to stay in my house 4 months straight with my sassy siblings while other awesome people were helping the planet. Signed – OL Smith Middle School 6th Grader R.R.

Dear front liners, Thank you for all that you have done for us. I am very thankful that you put other people’s lives before yours. I also hope that everyone knows I am so thankful.  God put you in this world and I do not know what the world would look like without people like you. Thank you so much for helping us and helping us all have good lives and helping us all be safe. I also hope everyone of you gets gold medals for what you have done since you started your job.  Thank you for all that you’ve done .  Signed – OL Smith Middle School 6th grader, C.H.

Dear World, From Smith Students!

Dear World, *in the letter in the beginning  it is a song with the Lego Movie music* *Everything is closed down. Everything is bad because of covid-19.  Everything is closed down.  And now i’m stuck in quarantine.*

I would like to thank all of the hospital workers and first responders that helped all around the world. Both my mom and dad work in a hospital so I know what a sacrifice is and how scary it can be.  If we all stick together we can get through this mess. Hopefully this is all over soon and we can go back to “normal”. Signed – OL Smith Middle School 6th Grader , Paris P.

Dear World, From Smith Students – What I want Frontliners to know

Dear World,  First off, I would like to thank all of our first responders and doctors, nurses and all of the people who helped out in the hospitals. I would like to thank them because if it wasn’t for them we would all be in danger. If it wasn’t for our first responders my grandma would have died at her house but we rushed to her house and called first responders. They got there within minutes. They rushed her to the hospital,  but within 3 hours she passed away. This has caused me to feel down lately. She was my inspiration in life. Without here I dont know what to do. Long Live Fatima.
