Hello Parents and Guardians,
NEED TO KNOW:
- We will have a Valentine’s Day party on Friday, February 14th:

- Winter break starts at the end of the day on Friday, February 14th and school resumes on Monday, February 24th.
- We will have Literacy Night on Thursday, March 5th 5:30 – 6:30 PM
- There is a ½ day on Friday, March 13th.
- There is a late start on Wednesday, March 18th.
SPELLING: This week’s words will have a “long o” sound made by having a silent “e” at the end of the word. Our words are: robe, spoke, chose, broke, note, bone, hole, nose. Our bonus words: must, new.
WRITING: We are going to work on “Brainstormers” stories. We will write our stories to submit them for the Brainstromers Assembly in March.
READING: This week we will continue to work on learning how to analyze the author’s purpose for writing the text and learn how to describe an author’s purpose for using specific illustrations.
MATH: We will start Module 3!!! YAY!! Module 3 is about measurement.
SCIENCE: We will continue to finish our unit about how the “Earth moves in the sky.”
SOCIAL STUDIES: We will start working on maps.

Week of February 3rd-February 7th

- We will have Math Night on Monday, February 3rd 5:30 – 6:30 PM.
- There will be a late start on Wednesday, February 5th.
- Winter break starts at the end of the day on Friday, February 14th and school resumes on Monday, February 24th.

Description: Our Kick-off will take place in the Anderson Theater and will feature free books and seeds, introductory remarks by Mayor John B. O’Reilly, Jr., a keynote lecture by Professor Selena Smith of UM-AA on Lab Girl, a presentation on plants by Debra A. Reid, the Curator of Agriculture at The Henry Ford, and a craft for all ages.

Week of January 27th – January 31st
Hello Parents and Guardians,
NEED TO KNOW:
- Our bowling field trip is this Friday, January 31st in the afternoon. Students will need to have car seats. Parents that are driving, please check with Ms. Cathy or Ms. Anne in the office to make sure your paperwork is complete. Thank you!
- We will have Math Night on Monday, February 3rd 5:30 – 6:30 PM.

READING: We will continue to work on comparing and contrasting informational and narrative texts. We will review nouns, verbs, and verb tenses.
MATH: We will continue working on Module 2. It is an introduction to place value through addition and subtraction within 20. We plan on being done with lessons 1-28 by Friday. Please have your child practice math at home to help them with their development at school.
SCIENCE: We will finish our unit about how the “Earth moves in the sky.”
SOCIAL STUDIES: We will finish working on our Economics unit.

NEED TO KNOW:
- We do not have school on Monday, January 20th
- There is a ½ day on Tuesday, January 21st.
- Winter break starts at the end of the day on Friday, February 14th and school resumes on Monday, February 24th.
SPELLING: We will do are “-y” words. The words make the long “i” sound. Our words are: my, dry, shy, try, cry, sky, guy, spy. Our bonus words: of, was.
WRITING: We will finish our “how to” writing unit. The children will have “how-to” make a snowman papers in the hall.
READING: We will work on comparing and contrasting informational and narrative texts. We will review nouns, verbs, and verb tenses.
MATH: We will continue working on Module 2. It is an introduction to place value through addition and subtraction within 20. We plan on being done with lessons 1-24 by Friday. Please have your child practice math at home to help them with their development at school.

Hello Parents and Guardians,
NEED TO KNOW:
- Wednesday, January 15 is the Pancake Breakfast for dinner. It starts at 5:30.
- Friday, January 17th at 8:50 is “Coffee with the Principal.”
- There is a ½ day on Friday, January 17th. We have no school on Monday, January 20th and another ½ day on Tuesday, January 21st.
SPELLING: We will do are “ay” words. Our words are: say, stray, clay, tray, away, anyway, okay, may. Our bonus words: first, second.
WRITING: We will work on writing “how to” papers. The children will teach us “how to” do different things.

SPELLING: We will do “fl” and “pl” words. Our words are: flower, flash, flat, fly, plot, play, plant, plug. Our bonus words: pink, orange.
WRITING: We will start writing “how to” papers. The children will teach us “how to” do different things.
READING: We will work on understanding and answering questions in non-fiction text. We will review text features of non-fiction also.

Week of December 16th – December 20th
Hello Parents and Guardians,
NEED TO KNOW:
- Late start December 18th.
- We will have a holiday party on December 20th from 1:30-2:30. I have attached the link to our Sign Up Genius. The Sing-Along with happen right after the party from 2:30-3:30.

Week of December 9th – December 13th
Hello Parents and Guardians,
NEED TO KNOW:
- The field trip is this Friday! We will be leaving school by 9am and returning to school by 12:30! Thank you to all the parent drivers!
- Late start December 18th.
- Winter Break starts on December 20th and school resumes on January 6th.
SPELLING: We will do “or” words. Our words are: for, fork, horn, more, corn, short, storm, porch. Our bonus words: green, yellow.
WRITING: We will work on our opinion pieces for the hallway.
READING: We will continue to read and compare selections of text about different types of characters and analyze what the characters say, think, and do. We will look at different “Gingerbread Man” books and see how they are alike and different.
MATH: We will continue working on Module 2. It is an introduction to place value through addition and subtraction within 20. We plan on being done with lessons 1-11 Friday. Please have your child practice math at home to help them with their development at school.
SCIENCE: We are focusing on Social Studies.
SOCIAL STUDIES: We will work on our lesson about History.
