Reminder that this Wednesday, October 7th is a Late Start Day.  The first bell will ring at 9:35 a.m.  Students are expected to be in class by the second bell at 9:40 a.m.

We will have our first Math Test this coming Friday, October 9th.  I will be sending home a Study Guide today.  Students should complete the Unit 1 Study Guide at home and bring it back to school on Thursday.  We will go over the Study Guide together and answer any questions students were unsure of.  The test will be on Friday.  The Unit 1 test includes finding elapsed time using an open number line, drawing the hands on a clock to match a given time, finding the time minutes later, creating a bar graph with data given (must include a graph title), answering questions about data on a graph/table.

There will be a S.S. quiz this Wednesday, October 7th on landforms and bodies of water in Michigan.  Students will be bringing home their notebooks and papers done in class to help them study.  Students must name 3 specific landforms found in Michigan (i.e.  Beaver Island, Huron Mountains…), and name 3 specific bodies of water found in/near Michigan (i.e.  Lake Michigan, Saginaw Bay…).  They will also have to label where the 5 Great Lakes are located on a map of Michigan.  We will be using the acronym “HOMES” to remember the 5 Great Lakes:

Mrs. Grizzell is giving a Science quiz this Friday, October 9th.  A study sheet is coming home today.  Students need to know the key vocabulary words:  motion, gravity, friction, speed

Picture day is scheduled for Monday, October 12th.  Order forms are being sent home today.  Please send order forms with money/check next Monday or pay ahead online and send in just the order form with the online code.

The Book Fair is coming to school next week.  Our class will be going to the Book Fair on Tuesday, October 13th at 2:30 p.m.  The Book Fair will also be open after school from 3:30-4:00 Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Family Night at the Book Fair is scheduled for Wednesday from 5:30-7:00 p.m.

Book Fair

The Book Fair is coming to school next week.  Our class is scheduled to go to the Book Fair on Tuesday, October 13th at 2:30 p.m.  Please send any money with your child on Tuesday if they want to purchase items at the Book Fair.  The Book Fair will also be open after school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:30-4:00.  Wednesday night is Family Night and the Book Fair will be open from 5:30-7:00 p.m.

Picture Day

Snow School Picture Day is Monday, October 12th.  Order forms are coming home today.  Please send order forms with money/check to school next Monday.

PTA Meeting tonight

Join the PTA this Thurs., Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. for the first meeting of the year. The meeting will take place in the media center (not the cafeteria, as originally scheduled).
If you would like to become a member, you can sign up at the meeting. There is a $6 fee that will allow you to vote on proposals, budgets, etc.

Week of September 28- October 2

Academic words:  chart, solve, genre, Dearborn, friction

Just a reminder that students receive new spelling words and homework every Monday.  Students are to complete at least 3 spelling activities on the tic-tac-toe sheet and turn in all work completed and stapled together on Friday.

Students should continue to read for 15-20 minutes every night.

Reminder that Snow School Spirit Wear order forms are due Wednesday, September 30th.

There will be a pizza night this Wednesday, September 30th at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria for our Watch Dog program.  Bring a dad, uncle, grandfather, or important male figure in your life to enjoy pizza and learn about volunteering for the Watch Dog program at Snow School.

The Social Studies Quiz on “Where do we live?” has been graded and is coming home today.  Go over your child’s quiz together.  This quiz may stay at home:)

Week of September 21-22

Reminder that school is closed this Wednesday, September 23-Friday, September 25.

Due to the shortened week, we will not have any new spelling words this week.

Thank you to all of the families who attended Open House last Thursday.  If you have not signed up for a parent teacher conference in November, please do so as soon as possible.  The sign up sheets will be displayed in the hallway near our classroom door.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is Snow School Spirit Day.  Wear your Snow School shirts or our school colors of royal blue and white!

I do not give homework over the weekends, but I do expect the students to read at least 15-20 minutes every night.  The more students read, the better readers they will become!

Weekend News

Thank you to all of the wonderful families that attending Open House last night.  It was so nice to meet all of you!

Spelling tests will come home today.  Go over your child’s test with them.  You may keep the test, it does NOT need to be returned to school.

We will have a Social Studies quiz on Monday.  Students are bringing home a study guide today.  Students are expected to know where we live (continent, country, state, county, and city).  Also, they need to identify 3 natural characteristics and 3 human characteristics in Dearborn.  Examples are found on the study guide.

*Reminder that there is no school next Wednesday, September 23rd – Friday, September 25th.

Week of September 14-18

Every Monday the students will take a Spelling Pretest to see what words they already know how to spell and what the week’s rule is for the spelling words.  There will be 5 “hot” words that follow a particular pattern.  On Friday’s test, the students will also be asked how to spell 5 “cold” words that follow the same pattern.  The test will also include 5 academic words that we are learning in ELA, Math, Science, and/or S.S.  These academic words will be introduced and taught throughout the week.

Students will receive Spelling homework every Monday.  It is a tic-tac-toe spelling sheet which lists 9 different spelling activities that the students can complete at home.  Students must choose 3 of these activities, complete them at home, and return the sheet with all work attached every Friday.  Your child will be coming home with Spelling homework today.

Students should be reading 15-20 minutes every night at home.  The more students practice reading, the better readers they will become!

Third grade students will begin learning Science and Social Studies starting today.  All third graders will have myself for Social Studies, then they will go to Mrs. Grizzell’s class for Science.  This happens in the afternoon from 12:40-1:20 and 1:20-2:00 every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

**Reminder that Open House is this Thursday, September 17th from 5:30-7:00 p.m.  Come in and see your child’s classroom and meet the teacher.

Peanut Allergy

Attention parents:  We have a student in our class that is allergic to peanuts.  Please do not send any snacks to school that contain peanuts.  Remind your child that they should never share their snack or lunch with friends due to allergies and food restrictions.  Thank you for keeping our classroom safe!
