Extra Halloween candy at home???

Dear Families,

If you have any unwanted extra Halloween candy and would like to donate it to our school, we will gladly accept it.  We use it for rewarding children through our PBIS program.  Please send it to room 4, Mrs. Grizzell’s room, or to the office. Thank you.

Mrs. Grizzell is giving a Science Quiz this Wednesday.  A study guide is coming home today for students to study at home.  Concepts that were covered are speed, position, distance, and mass.

This  coming Friday, November 6th is a half day for elementary students.  Students will be dismissed at 11:45 p.m.

Halloween Thank You!

Thank you to the following families for donating treats for our Halloween party:  The Ross Family, the Jordan Family, the Szor Family, the Kerr Family, and the Hopkins Family.

Our party was a huge success!  Happy Halloween and safe trick-or-treating!

Halloween Party

Tomorrow, Friday, October 30th is our classroom Halloween party.  Thank you to the families that signed up to donate treats/items for the party.  If you did not sign up, please do NOT send any extra food/treats to school.  Otherwise we will have too much food leftover and wasted.

Students are allowed to wear their Halloween costumes to school.  Remember that no weapons or masks are allowed.  Students will not be allowed to change into or out of costumes during the day due to limited bathroom space.

Happy Halloween and safe trick or treating on Saturday!

Week of October 26-30

Spelling words (consonant blends: bl, st, cr, sl, dr, fl):  black, stop, crab, blood, slip

Academic words:  sum, value, topic, observe, symbols

Please make sure your child is reading every night for 15-20 minutes.  It is important for students to read at home to improve comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and vocabulary.

Students are expected to complete their homework on time.  If homework is not turned in on time, students are given an “Oops” note that MUST be signed by a parent and returned to school the next day with the missing assignment.  If the note/assignment are not returned, then the student will have to flip their card.

Thank you to those families who have signed up to bring in treats for our Halloween party this coming Friday.  If you have not signed up, please do not send in any treats.  Otherwise we have too much food and much of it gets wasted.  There will be other opportunities to bring in treats for future parties.  As of now, we still need volunteers to bring in vegetables and fruit (it helps even out all of the sugar!).

Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up on November 12th, 18th, and 19th.  Please make sure you have signed up for a day and time to discuss your child’s first report card and progress made so far this year.

The district has paid for a fantastic website called “MobyMax”.  Please encourage your child to visit this website at home.  Last Friday we did our Math Practice Test in class and many students have started their lessons for math.  The website is www.mobymax.com/signin.  The username is the student’s id number and the password is their birthdate (mmddyyy).  It is a wonderful website and students really enjoy the lessons/activities provided.

Pumpkin Raffle

Make A Wish Pumpkin Raffle:  The Snow Staff have decorated small pie pumpkins for a very worthy cause!  Pumpkins will be displayed in the lobby showcases.    Ticket sales will start on Thursday, October 22 and run through Thursday, October 29.  Pumpkins will go home with the winners on Friday, October 30.  Tickets will be on sale in the morning before school- in the lobby- or from Ms. Zechar in the art room.  We have done this the last three years and have generated a nice donation to Make A Wish.  Not everyone wins a pumpkin, but every one that buys a ticket helps a charity provide a wonderful experience for a child in need of something special.  Many thanks for your participation!

Thank you

Thank you to the Szor family for providing extra snacks of pretzels for those children who do not bring an afternoon snack to school!

Week of October 19-23

Spelling words (short /u/ sound):  lunch, thump, bug, such, thunder

Academic words:  lakes, measure, tally, characters, text

We have completed our first writing unit about Narrative Writing.  Our published stories are displayed in the hallway for everyone to read.  We will begin our next unit this week on Informational Writing.

Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for November 12th, 18th, and 19th.  Please make sure you have scheduled a time to meet and discuss your child’s progress so far this year.

On Friday, October 3oth we will have a small Halloween party.  Students may dress up in costumes for school that day.  Due to the limited space in bathrooms, students must wear their costume to school and will not be able to change during the day.  No weapons, masks, or face paint are allowed.  There is a sign up sheet in the hallway outside our classroom for families that would like to donate treats for our party.  Please only bring in what you sign up for, otherwise we have multiples of items and too much food left over.  Remember that we are a “Peanut Free Classroom” so no peanuts please:)
