Reading Bags are being sent home today and are due back next Monday, January 25th.  Students are to read their assigned book then answer the 3 “Think and Compare” questions at the back of the book in complete sentences in their BEST handwriting.  If work continues to come in messy or late, students may be asked to do the assignment over again.  All work should be completed in pencil.

Our class has already completed our Reading and Math NWEA tests.  We will be working on Language and Science this week and next week.  When all testing is completed, I will be sending home an updated bar graph to compare with their scores from October.

Reminder that tomorrow, Wednesday, is a LATE START day.  Breakfast will NOT be served in the classroom.  Students can go to the cafeteria starting at 9:00 to enjoy breakfast.

The Unit 4 Math Test that we took last Friday is coming home today.  Please go over the test with your child at home.  Discuss any mistakes that your child made, and talk about how they can do better on the next test.

We started our 3 minute multiplication tests today.  Students will have 3 minutes to solve 30 multiplication problems.  We start with multiplying factors of 0 and 1.  If a child gets all 30 problems correct, he/she moves on to factors of 2.  If a child gets even one problem wrong, he/she will have to take the test over again the next day.  The majority of the class passed their 0’s and 1’s today and will move onto 2’s tomorrow.  Those that did not pass usually made careless mistakes and did not go back to check their work.

The quiz on the British in the Great Lakes Region is tomorrow (Tuesday).  A study guide was sent home last Friday along with students’ S.S. notebooks to help them study.

Reminder that there is no school next Monday, January 18th due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Christmas Shopping Math Activity

image image image image image image image image imageStudents went Christmas shopping on Friday.  Each group was given a “check” for $100.00.  They had to work together to find at least 5 items to buy while looking at store advertisements.  They had to calculate the total amount spent on all items and figure out how much change they would have left from the $100.00.  The students had such a fun, educational experience!
