The Snow PTA is holding a contest to see which class can bring in the highest percentage of paid PTA members per student by Friday, October 7th. Please consider joining our PTA. A blue membership form was sent home last week. Extras can be found in the office.

The PTA is also holding a contest for the classroom that can collect the most Box Tops. If you have any donations, please send them to school and I will put them in our classroom envelope.

We will continue our NWEA testing this week with the Language test on Tuesday morning and the Science test on Wednesday morning.

This week we will also be working on our first District Writing Prompt.

Cub Scout Troop 1148 is holding an introduction meeting on Tuesday, September 27th in the cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. Stop by to hear about the wonderful opportunities with the Cub Scouts and enjoy pizza and slot car racing.

Watch D.O.G.S will be having a meeting on Wednesday, September 28th from 6:00-7:00 in the cafeteria. Stop by to hear about the wonderful Watch D.O.G.S. program and sign up to volunteer in the school.

If you have not signed up for Parent Teacher Conferences in November, please stop by the classroom to sign up or email me and I will let you know what dates and times are still available.

Remember on rainy/cold mornings, the students are to line up in the gym before school instead of on the playground. We will do the pledge together inside. We practiced this last week, so students already know to line up on line #14.

I have corrected the Unit 1 Math Test that students took last Friday and it will be coming home today. Take time to discuss with your child how they did on the test and what they want to work on for the next test.

Today starts our Weekly Reading Log. Students must read a total of 100 minutes at home every week which includes going onto MyOn. Students must record how many minutes they’ve read each day and add the total for the end of the week. Students must also go onto MyOn at the end of each week and record their current Lexile score. We have already looked at our Lexile scores together in class with Mrs. Bush, so students already know how to do this. If you need further help with logging onto MyOn, go to my previous post on this blog with complete directions.

Have a great week!!!

Students will be taking their Unit 1 Math Test this Friday, September 23rd.  A Unit 1 Study Guide is coming home today as homework.  Students are to complete the Study Guide at home and bring it back to school on Thursday.  We will check it together on Thursday and I will answer any questions that students have.  This will come home on Thursday to review for the test on Friday.

NWEA Testing is starting this week.  We will take the Reading NWEA on Tuesday morning and the Math NWEA on Wednesday morning.  Please make sure your child arrives to school on time.

Thank you to all of the families that attended Open House last Thursday evening.  If you haven’t gotten a chance to sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences starting in November, please contact me and I will let you know what dates and times are still available.  Conferences are scheduled for November 10th, 16th, and 17th.

Students should be reading every night to improve their comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and vocabulary.  I will soon be sending home a reading log for students to keep track of how many minutes they have read at home each week.  Students should also be going onto MyOn and working on improving their Lexile score.  The username on MyOn is the student’s id number and their password is their birthdate (MMDDYYYY).

Open House Tonight

Just a reminder that Snow School’s Open House is tonight from 6:00-7:30 p.m.  I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s families this evening!

Week of September 13-16

Welcome back after the extended weekend.  Happy Eid to those families that are celebrating!

Weekly Spelling words (multi-syllabic short a and e):  problem, latitude, machine, system, member

Academic Spelling words:  points, lines, line segments, rays, quadrangles

As 4th graders, students will be given 10 spelling words at the beginning of each week.  Students will do a few activities using these words in class, but are expected to study the list of words for the test on Friday.  There is no official homework that needs to be turned in for spelling words.  A list of suggested activities to do with your child at home is being sent home today.  Every Friday, the test will include the 10 given words plus 5 “cold” words that are a mystery to the students but follow the pattern for the week.

Please continue to follow the arrival and dismissal procedures that were set up at the beginning of the year.  A pink note went home on Friday with a few changes to the arrangements, however 4th grade remains the same.

Open House is this Thursday, September 15th from 6:00-7:30 at night.  Stop by the classroom to meet Ms. Shene and see all of the exciting things that are happening this year!

Several papers are coming home today from the PTA including Officer and Open Chair Positions, joining the Snow PTA, and a Box Tops Contest.

Thank you to all of the wonderful families that have sent in suggested supplies and donations for the classroom.  It looks like we’re going to have a fantastic year!!!
