Continue to read every night at home and record your minutes on the Weekly Reading Log.  Students must go to MyOn near the end of each week to find their current Lexile score.

An October Scholastic Book Order is coming home today.  You can send in the form with checks made out to Scholastic or fill out your order online.  There is an information sheet attached with our classroom code if you order online.  All orders are due by Friday, October 21st.

Snow School Picture Day is Monday, October 10th.  Please fill out the order form ahead of time if you choose to purchase pictures.  Order forms were sent home last week.  If you need another order form, there are extras in the office.  Put on your best clothes and a smile!

NWEA scores

I am sending home a copy of your child’s NWEA scores today.  I have highlighted their RIT score for Reading, Math, Language, and Science.  The bar on the far right hand side of each academic area states what their projected growth is for the end of the year.  Students will take the NWEA tests again in January and May.  Attached to their report is a letter stating what parents can do at home to help your child improve their NWEA scores.

5th Annual Cipriano Race

If your child qualified for the 5th Annual Cipriano Race, the permission slip and $2.00 fee is due tomorrow.  The race is scheduled for October 15th.  Congratulations to all of those who qualified!

Week of October 3-7

Spelling words (long a sound):  ache, phrase, estimate, arcade, glacier

Academic words:  geography, region, direction, transportation, landform

ALL students must return their Weekly Reading Log every MONDAY.  It is the student’s responsibility to fill in their Reading Log everyday at home.   Students need to read at least 100 minutes per week.  They should also login to MyOn and read as much as possible in order to improve their Lexile Score.  Make sure to record the current Lexile Score and have a parent sign the log at the end of the week.  If a student does not return their log to school on Monday, they have not shown responsibility according to the PBIS matrix, therefore the student will have to change his/her card for the day.  If you lose the Weekly Reading Log, please print out a new copy from the link on this blog website.

I will not be sending homework home every night.  It is your child’s responsibility to fill in their Student Planner to remind themselves what their homework is each day.  Other than the Weekly Reading Log, 2-3 math Study Links per week, and studying for upcoming tests, the only other homework students will normally have is anything that was not completed in class.  All of this homework needs to be turned in, otherwise they will be marked down for their grade on their report card.  Many students have not been turning in homework which will result in lowered report card grades.

Thank you to the families who have already donated Box Tops to the classroom contest.  The PTA has organized a contest to see which classroom can collect the most Box Tops.  Please send in any final donations by this Friday for the PTA contest.

Please consider joining the Snow PTA.  Many families have already joined!  There are extra copies of the membership form in the office if you have misplaced the one that was previously sent home.

Reminder that next Monday, October 10th is Picture Day.  Order forms were sent home last week.  Please check with the office if you have lost or misplaced your order form.

Reminder that Friday, October 14th is a half day of school.  Students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.

Students should return their library books to school every Tuesday in order to check out new books.  If your child does not return their library books on Tuesdays, they will not be able to check out books any other day that week.

Check our classroom schedule to remember that our class has gym every Monday and Tuesday and should wear/bring the proper shoes to school on those days.

Just a reminder that we have 2 students with peanut allergies in our classroom, so please do not send any snacks or treats to school that contain peanuts.  We are a PEANUT FREE ZONE:)
