PTA Reflections Contest

PTA Reflections Contest:  Let’s make this OUR Year!!!!

Every year the National PTA Council sponsors a contest for students.  They say, “PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2017-2018 Theme: Within Reach.

The arts—and the National PTA Reflections program—support student success and serve as a valuable tool for building strong partnerships in your school community. Celebrate arts learning in your school community with Reflections.

National PTA Reflections welcomes all grades and abilities to explore and be involved in the arts. Annually, thousands of students will reflect on a common theme and create original works of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.”

The Art Department participates from Snow, but in the past there have been few to zero participants in most categories.  This year we are hoping students will catch the bug and find a category they are interested in AND create something they will submit.

Each classroom has a handout on the specifics for the categories:  Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts.  The information is also posted by the Art Room and in the Lobby.

Please encourage your children to find something of interest and be creative.  If you have questions please see or email Mrs. Reagan Davis, Snow Reflections Chairperson, davis.reagan@gmail.com , or Ms. Jo Anne Zechar, zecharj@dearbornschools.org.

ALL entries are due to Ms. Zechar by the end of the day, Tuesday, November 21!!!!

Reading Bags are coming home TODAY!!!

Reading Bags will be coming home for the first time today.  Each student has a book to read at home, a Reading Response Notebook, a pen, and a list of assignments with dates in their Reading Bag.  Students are expected to read the assigned pages or chapters on the dates listed.  Each day the students must choose one of the given prompts on the cover of their Reading Response notebook to answer.  They should write the date in their Reading Response notebook, copy the question they have chosen to answer, and answer the question in a complete sentence in their best handwriting.  The Reading Bag is expected to come back to school every day, as I will be meeting with different groups throughout the week to check up on their work.  This reading time can be included on your child’s Weekly Reading Log!  They can still read their own books if they choose after they finish their Reading Bag assignment.  The assignments will only be Monday-Thursday, but students can read their own books on the weekend.  Happy Reading!!!

4th grade DTE Energy Assembly

The 4th graders attended an assembly today by DTE Energy.  Each 4th grade student will be coming home today with a “Take Action Kit” and a Home Energy Worksheet that needs to be completed by an adult.  The kit is yours to keep.  Please return the completed surveys as soon as possible.  Thank you!

Reminder that all Weekly Reading Logs are due on Monday.  Many students are misplacing their logs and just writing it down on any sheet of paper.  Please go onto my blog and print off a new Weekly Reading Log if your child misplaces the new one they get on Monday.  We keep these in our Leadership Binders and the ones that people create on their own do not fit properly.  We are building responsible students in our classroom!

Reading Bags will be going home at the end of this week.  Your child is expected to read the book assigned to them from their reading bag.  This can be used as their minutes on their Weekly Reading Log.

NWEA reports will be coming home today.  Students have seen their bar graphs that show their scores from last year compared to this year’s scores.  Discuss with your child what they can do to improve their NWEA scores throughout the year.

Thank you to the wonderful chaperones that attended Camp Pinewood:  Mr. Abuhasan, Mr. Hall, Mr. Husaini, Mrs. McClain, and Mrs. Stratford.  We couldn’t have done it without your help!  THANK YOU!!!
