5th grade band canceled for Monday

Ms. Oren has to cancel 5th grade band practice next Monday, March 19th.  All 5th graders should bring their instruments on Wednesday, March 21st for 5th grade band next week.

5th Grade Science Test Tomorrow

Ms. Sherlock would like to remind all of the 5th graders that tomorrow is their Science Test.  Please use the study guide that was sent home last week and Quizlet for vocabulary to prepare for the test.

Reminder that Ms. Sherlock talked to the students about a correction on the study guide that the second to last question should have the connection from hydrosphere to geosphere.

Week of March 12-16

*Reminder that there is a LATE START this Wednesday, March 14th.  The first bell will ring at 9:35 a.m.
*Reminder that breakfast is served in the cafeteria from 8:15-8:30 a.m.  Students should not be arriving earlier than 8:15 a.m. for breakfast.
*Parent Teacher conferences are next Thursday, March 22nd.  If you did not receive a letter from myself about attending, then I do not need to see you at this time.  If you have specific questions about your child’s progress, please email me at shenew@dearbornschools.org and we can set up a conference on March 22nd.

*The end of the third card marking is this Friday, March 16th.  Please make sure your child has turned in any late or missing work and any test corrections that have made on tests and/or quizzes by Friday.  Report cards should go home some time next week.
*PLEASE make sure your child is completing each Reading Bag assignment on time.  Many students are falling behind and this is resulting in lower reading grades on their report cards.  Reading Bag assignments are to be completed Monday-Thursday.  Students are to read the assigned pages and complete a written response.
*It’s that time of year again, the Little Caesars Pizza Kit Fundraiser is underway!  All proceeds will be used to help send next year’s Fifth Graders to Camp Pinewood.  Packets have been sent home with all important information.  If you need another, please contact Ms. Sherlock. There is an online ordering option at www.pizzakit.com (Fundraiser ID #346294).
Order forms and payments are due on Tuesday March 27th and pizza kits will be delivered on April 11th, 3:40 PM-5:30 PM.

Admissions Criteria for 2018-2019
STEM Applications are currently open to any Dearborn resident. We sent out letters to the top 100 students in our current 5th grade Elementary school, although, any student is eligible to apply.

There are a few spots available for 7th and 8th grade.

The criteria for admissions are based on M-STEP and NWEA scores. M-STEP scores must be proficient in ELA and Math in 4th grade with Advanced Proficient being the highest scores.

NWEA scores are identified as being one year above the expected grade level. This is determined by NWEA.

The scores are then sorted by each assessment to identify the top 60 students for incoming 6th grade.
Minimum NWEA Winter scores to be considered per grade level for 2018-2019 school year are:
6th grade: Reading 222, Math 231
7th grade: Reading 225, Math 235
8th grade: Reading 228, Math 239
