Dear Snow Families,
Great news! Snow School is continuing our Read at Home Plan. With our new Book Room, every Snow student will go home with “Good Fit” Books daily! “Good fit” books are books that are not too hard and not too easy. The expectation is that students improve their reading skills and develop a love for reading.
Snow School Read at Home Plan
Spelling Words (long o vowel sound): owner, compose, joke, only, grow, hold, notice, whole, vocal, compromise
Content words: organism, light, energy, air, water
Reminder that students must complete their Spelling iLearn activities by Friday. Students are given time in class to complete the activities and may work on them at home as well in order to have them done by Friday. Please check the iLearn course at home on Friday to see how your child did on the spelling test.
Reminder that parents should be using the Homework Helper sheets to assist your child with their math homework. Look for Exit Tickets that have been completed independently in class to see if your child is understanding the concept. It is your child’s responsibility to tear out the correct homework assignments, complete them at home, and return them to school the next day.
Reminder that all students should be reading the books in their Reading Bags every night. Reading Bags must be brought back to school every day.
This Wednesday, October 3rd is our DTE Energy presentation. Representatives from DTE will be coming to our class to talk about energy, which goes along with our current Science unit. Students will be given a free Energy Kit to take home for the family. We only ask that you take a few minutes to fill out the survey that will come home with the kit. If all 25 families complete and return the survey, DTE will send our classroom a check for $100.00! Last year, all of my students returned the survey and we used the $100.00 to buy the 5 new bean bags we currently have in our classroom. Please help our classroom earn the $100.00!
Reminder that all Scholastic Book Club orders are due this Friday, October 5th.
Yesterday’s Science Quiz on Energy has been checked and is coming home today. Please go over with your child what they got correct and what they got incorrect. It is important that children learn from their mistakes so they can improve on the next quiz.
Please check your child’s Homework Folder every night for important papers coming home. You will also find any math Exit Tickets that students have completed in class. If they really understood the concept you will see a check plus at the top of their paper. If they mostly understand the concept you will see a check at the top of their paper. If they are struggling with the concept you will see a check minus at the top of the paper. It is important to review the concept/skills learned through homework assignments and classwork.
FYI…there was a misprint on the students’ spelling lists that went home on Monday. Word number 4 should be “trim” not “trip”. The students were informed of the misprint today and fixed it on their spelling lists.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Students have weekly spelling assignments on our iLearn course. They are given time in class to complete the assignments. If any assignments are not finished by Thursday, students must complete them through the iLearn course at home. Students also take their Spelling Test on Friday on the iLearn course. You can have your child log in to the iLearn course at home so you can see which spelling words they spelled correctly and which spelling words were incorrect. Spelling tests may not be retaken. I
Reading Bags will begin coming home today. Students are expected to read the assigned book/pages each night at home. They can use these books towards their 20-30 minutes of reading on their Reading Logs. Students are expected to keep up with their reading at home and bring their reading bags to school every day in good condition.
We will finish our NWEA testing this week with Language. Once all students have finished all 4 NWEA tests, a report will be generated and sent home to the parents so you can see where your child is starting off this year. It will also have their scores from 3rd grade on the report, so you can see your child’s progress from last year. We will take the NWEA again in January and the final test will be in May.
Students are expected to return their homework to school on time. Late or missing work will effect your child’s grades.
The Social Studies quiz from last Friday has been checked and will be coming home today. Go over any answers your child had incorrect with them at home. We will continue to discuss where the U.S. is located in relation to other landmarks.
This Wednesday, September 26th is our Science Quiz on Energy. Students should bring home their Science notebook and go over what we have discussed and learned about energy to be prepared for the quiz.
Please remind your child to vote for lunch in the morning. It is their responsibility to vote for 1st choice, 2nd choice, or packed. The cafeteria needs to have an accurate count for lunch each day.
Please remind your child to check their mailbox at the end of each day. I announce which tables are ready to push in their chairs, get their mailboxes, and get their backpacks. Several students have been leaving at the end of the day without getting their mailbox which has their homework for the night in it.
