Halloween Parade Note

Dear Snow Families,

This year for Halloween we are going to begin a new Snow tradition- an all school Halloween Parade!  Every class level will have a station to decorate and pass candy out to all students.

Students may wear their costumes to school.  This is optional. For safety reasons, we ask that costumes are appropriate.  We also ask that there are no masks, weapons, excessive makeup or anything that will distract students from learning as they will be in their costumes for a full school day.

Please let your classroom teacher know if you are willing to be a Parent Leader.  This will involve organizing grade level parent helpers, table decorations, candy bags, and candy collection for your grade.

We will also be requesting candy donations on teacher blogs as there are over 450 students in the building! We are asking every class to donate 5 big bags of candy.  Thank you for supporting Snow!

When: Thursday October 31, 2019

Where: Snow Hallways

Time: 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Wear: Costumes,  Adults Western Theme or your choice

Reminder that students need to be reading at least 30 minutes every night and filling out their Weekly Reading Log. Weekly Reading Logs must be signed by a parent and returned on Monday.

We are currently working on Module 3 in math which continues students’ understanding of multiplication. It is important that students know their multiplication facts as we will be doing 1 digit by 2 digit and 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. Study with your child while your driving the car, making dinner, taking a walk around the block. Just give your child a multiplication fact such as 8 x 6 and practice memorizing the products. Flashcards are also a great way to study. You can find them at the Dollar Store, Target, Walmart, etc.

Reminder that this Thursday, October 24th is our first Math Parent Meeting from 3:00-3:30 pm. Parents are invited to come into the classroom to hear a short presentation about the Eureka Math program and the expectations your child has for this year. We will also give you tips on how to help your child at home. Please plan on attending this important informational meeting.

Students should be studying their weekly spelling words at home. We do several activities at school to practice these new words every week. Many students are not studying the words/patterns and are failing the Friday Spelling Test. You can have your child go onto iLearn at home to see their tests. Simply go to www.dearbornschools.org and click on Students. Click on iLearn and click on Ms. Shene’s 4th Grade Spelling. Go to the current week to see what activities your child has completed. All activities must have a passing score of 80% or higher by Friday morning.

This year Snow School will be having a Halloween parade instead of classroom parties. More information will be sent home regarding the parade this week.

Dearborn Shines for Healthy Kids

Wayne State University is doing a research study in partnership with Dearborn Public Schools to cultivate a healthy school culture where teachers, students, and families are provided with the resources needed to adopt lifelong healthy eating and physical activity habits.

Snow Elementary will receive new curriculum and equipment for the Physical Education Program. Students will also be participating in planting and growing a garden at Snow Elementary.

Third, Fourth, and Fifth grade students will be bringing home an information letter where you have the option to opt out if you do not want your child to participate in the study.

If you have any questions please contact Mr. Moyer

Students should be reading at least 30 minutes every night and filling in their Weekly Reading Log. All reading logs are due on Monday.

Students must complete at least 2 lessons on Zearn each week. Students are given time in class to complete these activities, but are encouraged to catch up at home as well.

The iReady Challenge for October is in motion. Students should be going onto iReady in class and at home and recording the scores they earn on each lesson in their Leadership Binders. Any lessons completed at home should be done without parent assistance. Students can write down their scores in the Student Planners and record them in their Leadership Binders when they return to school. The top 2 students in each class that have the most lessons passed with 80% or higher will be invited to a pizza party with Mrs. Bush at the end of October. This will be a monthly challenge.

Thank you to the parents who have already signed up for Parent Teacher Conferences in November. If you have not signed up, please go to the link below to choose a date and time to attend conferences:

Playworks

Last year Snow implemented Playworks, a program that emphasizes building life-skills through the kind of play kids are already wired to do! Our school is assigned a coach who organizes fun games at recess and equips students to be leaders among their peers. And it’s all built around FUN!

Playworks is in need of recess equipment this year! Simple items like playground balls, jump ropes, and soccer/basketballs go a long way. If you would like to donate items or money, the PTA is doing a drive to contribute to our children’s recess! Bring items to your teacher or the office. See the PTA blog or Snow School PTA Facebook page for more info. Thanks!
