We have finished all of the Meap Testing for 3rd grade.  I am very proud of the entire class for trying their very best.  Scores should be released by the state around December/January.  I will send home the individual reports as soon as they arrive.

Our Unit 2 Math Test will be on Monday, October 28th.  Continue to visit the math website, www.everydaymathonline.com to help your child prepare for the test.

On Thursday, October 31st we will have a class Halloween party.  There will be a sign up sheet outside the classroom for families to donate items for the party.  Please do not send in treats unless you have signed up, otherwise we get too many duplicates and wasted food.  Students may bring in candy to pass out to friends as well.  We currently have 25 students in our classroom.

Friday, November 1st will be the school’s PBIS celebration for the month of October.  As of right now, all 25 students will be attending the party.  Students will enjoy a movie as a school celebration then doughnuts in the classroom.  We are looking for a family to donate the doughnuts for our classroom only.  There is a note about this outside our classroom.  Please sign up if you are able to donate the doughnuts.

Book Bingo is this Friday, October 25th!

Thank you to all of the families who attended Open House last Thursday.  It was so nice to meet everyone.  We’ve displayed your family pictures in the classrooms and you will receive them at the end of the school year.

Today I will be sending home a letter regarding our updated math program.  One side of the letter gives directions of how to login to the website www.everydaymathonline.com with your child’s login name and password.  The other side of the letter explains many of the activities and resources available on this website.  I encourage families to explore the website together.  This will be one of the sources you can use to study for upcoming tests, as there will not be a study guide coming home this year.  Our test on Unit 1 will be this coming Thursday, September 26th.  Your child can bring home their Math Journal to help them study and you can use this website to help.

Class Schedule

I have added a page that lists all of our specials throughout the week titled “Class Schedule”.

Important notes

This week’s spelling words are the long and short /i/ sound:  bit, with, his, item, ideas

Remember that there will be 5 additional “mystery words” that follow the same spelling patterns for the long and short /i/ sound included on this Friday’s test.

Bonus/Challenge words:  chart, solve, fiction, sound, Michigan

Please make sure your child is reading 15-20 minutes every night and filling out their Student Reading Log.  Every student who fills in their log for Monday-Thursday will get a blue “pack pride” ticket added to our basket.

Snow School is continuing to follow the PBIS behavior system that was implemented last year.  You can find a copy of the PBIS matrix in the front of your child’s student planner.  We are always reviewing the expectations in school, but it would be helpful if parents reviewed the expectations at home as well.  Starting today, students will color the card color they had in class each day in their student planner.  Green is “great job”, yellow is a warning, orange is filling out a think sheet, red is phone call or note home.  Encourage your child to stay on green every day.

Continue to sign your child’s student planner on a daily basis.  It is an important communication tool between school and home.  If you ever have any questions you can email me at shenew@dearbornschools.org .

Snack

Since 3rd grade has early lunch from 11:10-11:40, we will be enjoying a healthy snack every afternoon.  Feel free to send in something small for your child to eat in the afternoon.  Suggestions are fruit, vegetables, pretzels, crackers.  Please do not send in chips or cookies as a snack.
