This week is Spirit Week.  Thank you to those families that have already made a $1.00 donation in order to participate in Spirit Week.  If you haven’t already paid, you can turn in your money anytime this week.  Today is wear a hat with words to school.  Tuesday is wear a button/pin with words, Wednesday is Snow School colors, Thursday is wear a t-shirt with words, and Friday is wear you favorite sports team shirt.

Reminder that this Wednesday, March 26th is Family Literacy Night from 6:00-7:00 p.m.  The Book Fair will be open during Literacy Night.

Thursday, March 27th is Parent-Teacher Conferences.  Only those parents who received invitations need to attend.  However, if you have specific questions or concerns about your child, you may stop by between 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Family Literacy Night

Snow School Family Literacy Night is Wednesday, March 26th from 6:00-7:00 p.m.  If you have not already sent in your RSVP and still plan on coming, either send in the RSVP or send in a note stating how many children in your family will be attending.  That way the committee can set up activities and prizes in advance.  Thank you and I look forward to seeing you during Literacy Night!

Book Fair

Remember that the Book Fair begins Monday, March 24th.  Our class will be going to the Book Fair on Monday, March 24th during our library check out time.  Please make sure to send money to school with your child if they plan on purchasing books from the book fair.  Otherwise it is open after school until 4:15 and during Family Literacy Night.

Paper towel and toilet paper rolls

The PBIS party for March is a recycle project.  The team is in need of empty paper towel rolls and toilet paper rolls.  If you have any to donate, please send them to school by the end of March.

Week of March 17-21

Thursday, March 20th is Snow School Skate Night from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  Tickets are $7 in advance and $9 at the door.

Wednesday, March 26th is Snow School Literacy Night from 6:00-7:00 p.m.  Please fill out the yellow form that was sent home last week indicating how many children will be attending so we can be prepared!

Next week is Spirit Week.  Students are asked to donate $1 to participate for the entire week.  The money raised will be used to purchase a “peace pole” for the school.

The Book Fair runs March 24th-28th.  Our class will be going on Monday, March 24th during our check out time from 1:35-1:55.  If students would like to purchase something from the book fair, they should bring their money to school with them on March 24th.  Otherwise, the Book Fair is open after school Monday- Thursday from 3:35-4:15 and during Literacy Night from 5:30-7:15 p.m.

Unit 7 Math Test

Due to the Snow Day, the Unit 7 Math Test will be given on Monday, March 17th.  Take advantage and have your child study over the weekend!

Parent Teacher Conferences

Spring Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 27th.  I am sending home letters to those families that I need to meet with during this time.  If you do not receive a letter and have questions or concerns that you would like to discuss about your child, please email me at shenew@dearbornschools.org to set up a conference time.  Thank you.

March PBIS party

Attention…the March PBIS celebration will have to do with recycling.  The team is looking for donations of empty paper towel rolls and empty Keurig containers.  If your family has any of these items to donate, please send them in throughout March as the party will be the first week in April.  Thank you for all of your help!

Week of March 10-14

Congratulations to Khalid and Jaclyn for passing all of their 3 minute tests and joining the “Math Wizards Club”.

Students are allowed to use a homework pass on one assignment.  They still need to comprehend what the homework assignment was because the concept will be assessed on each unit test.  Remember that homework passes may not be used for the Student Reading Log.

Reminder that this Wednesday, March 12th is a Late Start.  The first bell will ring at 9:35 a.m.  Breakfast will NOT be served in the classroom.  Students may go to the cafeteria at 9:00 for breakfast.

If you would like to be a guest reader in our classroom for March is Reading Month, please email me at shenew@dearbornschools.org to let me know what date you are available and we can work out a time.  Usually afternoons around 3:00 p.m. is the best time for us to have guest readers in our classroom.

Friday, March 14th is the Unit 7 Math Test.  The following are concepts students should know for the test:

-multiplication (basic facts and fact extensions)

-using diagrams to solve multiplication and division story problems

-review of parallel and intersecting lines, rays, and line segments

-review of faces, edges, and vertices of solid shapes

-review of 3-digit addition and subtraction and ballpark estimates

-using parentheses in number models

-solving multiplication and division puzzle boxes

-story problem with estimating
