Reminders for Parent Teacher Conferences were sent home last week. Please be respectful of other families and attend conferences on the correct day and the correct time. Each conference should last about 10-15 minutes. Parents will receive their child’s report card and NWEA results. Dr. Groover will be holding an informational meeting each night of conferences to explain the results of NWEA testing. Please see the previous email about times and information that will be discussed.

NWEA Assessment Scores Meetings

NWEA Assessment Scores

Parents will get their student’s scores from the recent NWEA MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) at Parent/Teacher conference.  The testing results are reported in RITs (Rauch Unit) on the report and in grade equivalent scores on the report card.  A RIT score is an estimation of a student’s instructional level and also measures student progress or growth in school.  We expect RIT scores to increase over time.  Parents and guardians should become comfortable with the understanding that individuals will grow at different rates.  Our goal is for teachers to use the data to differentiate and adjust instruction so that all students grow at levels appropriate for each individual.  If you have questions, please contact your student’s classroom teacher or Dr. Groover.
Dr. Groover will be holding the annual Title I Parent Meeting each night of conferences and will go into more detail about interpreting the NWEA reports, along with how to help your students success in school.  The sessions will be held as follows:
Thursday, Nov. 13 3:45-4:15
Wednesday, Nov. 19 4:30-5:00
Thursday, Nov. 20 5:30-6:00

Picture Retakes

Picture Retake day is Friday, November 14th.  Please send the pictures you do not want to keep to school, and your child can have their picture retaken.  If your child did not have his/her picture taken the first time, you can purchase pictures during retake day.

Week of November 3-7

Academic words:  decimal, also, heading, opaque, timeline

Reminder:  There is NO SCHOOL on Tuesday, November 4th due to Election Day.  Please take the time to get out and vote!

Students should be reading 15-20 minutes every night and filling out their Student Reading Log and having a parent initial the log.  Several students are either not reading or not filling in the log.  It is a part of their responsibility grade of doing homework.

Parent Teacher Conferences start next week.  If you have not already signed up, there are still time slots left on Wednesday, November 19th and Thursday, November 20th.  Thursday, November 13th is already full.  I will send home reminder notes later in the week of what date and time you signed up for.

Thank you to all of the families who donated treats, supplies, or candy for our Halloween Party.  The children really enjoyed everything!

I will be holding on to your child’s Unit 2 Math Test until report cards are completed.  You will be able to see the test during your child’s conference.  Unfortunately, many tests/quizzes have been sent home to be signed by a parent are were never returned to school.

Reminder that Friday, November 7th is a half day of school.  Students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.

PBIS October Party

Dear Snow Families,
We will celebrate our next PBIS party on Monday, November 3rd.  Students must have earned 14 or more green days in the month of October to attend.  If your child is attending, he/she may bring a board game from home to play.  Please do not send electronics.  We will allow electronics at a future PBIS party.  Keep up the GREAT job boys and girls!
Thank you for your cooperation,
Snow Teachers and Staff

Due Monday

Yankee Candle orders and Book It reading calendars are due on Monday, November 3rd.

Parent Volunteer Buttons missing

If you were a chaperone on last week’s field trip and received a parent volunteer button from the office, please make sure you return it as soon as possible.  These buttons are used throughout the school year for all parent chaperones and many are “missing” or were never returned.  Thank you:)

Week of October 27-31

Academic words:  facts, details, estimate, reflect, trade

Snow School’s Make a Wish Pumpkin Raffle has started!  Students can purchase raffle tickets before or after school Monday-Wednesday, or Thursday before school only.  The raffle tickets are $0.25 each.

Peanut Butter Drive:  Help feed children on the weekends by donating unopened jars of peanut butter (24 oz. or less) to our school.  Please make all donations by Tuesday, November 18th.  All proceeds will be donated to Blessings in a Backpack-Dearborn.

Our class will celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 31st at 2:00 p.m.  Thank you to the parents who have already signed up to donate treats for the students to eat.  Children may also bring in individually wrapped candy to pass out to students in our class only.  Students in third grade may wear their costume to school on Friday.  With only 1 bathroom in the classroom, it is too time consuming for students to change into Halloween costumes in class.  Please do not allow your child to bring any weapons with their costume.  Also, no gory costumes or masks that obscure the child’s view.

Thank you to the following parents for chaperoning on last week’s field trip to Wiard’s Apple Orchard:  Mrs. Beauchamp, Mrs. Cicotte, Mr. Franco, Mrs. Grey, Mrs. Griffin, Mrs. Layne, and Mrs. Reich.  We had an amazing day!

If you haven’t already signed up for parent teacher conferences in November, please do so as soon as possible.  The dates are November 13, 19, and 20 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.  This is the time for the parents and teacher to discuss your child’s academic progress and behavior in the classroom.  You will also receive your child’s first report card.

U of M vs. Michigan State

In celebration of the upcoming game this weekend, the school is showing their school spirit by wearing either blue and gold to support the University of Michigan, or green and white to support Michigan State on Friday!

Field trip tomorrow

Just a reminder that our 3rd grade field trip to Wiard’s Apple Orchard is tomorrow. Please remember to pack a sack lunch for your child. Items should be disposable (no glass please). Remember to dress appropriately for the weather. Warm shoes and a warm coat are suggested. Students may want to bring a small hand sanitizer and tissue to keep in their coat pockets. Parent chaperones should check in at the office first then come to our classroom at 8:55 for directions and to get their list of students in their group. We only have one bus, which will accommodate the students and teachers. Parent chaperones will have to drive separately (car pooling with other parents is suggested). Driving directions will be passed out in the classroom. I’m looking forward to an exciting field trip with the students!
