The Unit 6 Math Tests on geometry and multiplication have been checked and are coming home today.  You should go over the test with your child and discuss what they answered incorrectly.  These tests do NOT need to be signed or returned.  You may keep them at home.

Thank you to all of the wonderful families that donated food/supplies for our class Valentine’s day party.  The students really enjoyed passing out their cards and treats to each other.

Pennies for Pasta collections will continue throughout this week.  Our class has donated $78.95 so far!  Thank you to everyone who donated money already.  The final collection will be counted this Friday, so you may continue to send in coins and/or dollars for the fundraiser for leukemia.

There is a S.S. quiz on the 3 branches of Michigan’s government tomorrow.  Students completed a cut and paste activity in class to help study for the quiz.

School News

Pennies for Pasta:  Our last day to collect will be this Friday, February 27!  We have been very supportive of the Leukemia Foundation and look forward to closing out this week with a record collection.  Our total right now is $852.95!  Tons of thanks for your support!
PBIS Reward Party:  Monday, March 2, 245-315:  Students may bring electronics from home for this reward day!  We usually don’t allow  tablets, Ipads, Ipods, Leapster, DS and other suitable electronics at school, but this one half hour is different! FUN!   Please enjoy, respect and be responsible with your electronics!

Week of February 9-13

Spelling words (homophones):  there, their, they’re, plane, plain

Academic words:  polygon, line, ray, line segment, flower

Reminder that Wednesday, February 11th is a Late Start Day.  The first bell will ring at 9:35 a.m.  Breakfast will NOT be served in the classroom.  If your child would like breakfast, they can go to the cafeteria at 9:00 a.m.

Reading Bags are coming home today.  Since we have no school this week, I am requiring the Reading Bags to be turned in this Friday before vacation.  The assignment is a short informational passage to read and answer comprehension questions based on the main idea of the passage.

We are having our Valentine’s Day party this Friday, February 13th.  Students may bring in Valentine cards to pass out to the class.  We are still looking for the following food donations for the party:  cupcakes, brownies, vegetables, fruit, plates, and napkins.  If you can donate any of these items, please stop by and sign up on the sheet outside of our classroom.

There will be a Science quiz in Mrs. Grizzell’s class this Thursday.  She has sent home a study guide to help your child.

Our Unit 6 Math Test will be this Friday.  I am sending home the Study Guide tonight.  Please help your child with the study guide and make sure they bring it back to school on Thursday so we can go over any questions they might have.  The only thing we haven’t learned yet is symmetry, which we will focus on tomorrow and Wednesday.

Our last NWEA test will be Tuesday (tomorrow) morning on Reading.  Please make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast and encourage your child to read carefully and take their time on the test.

PBIS party for January is tomorrow

Friday, February 6th is the PBIS party for January.  Every student had to have no more than 4 card changes in order to be invited to this party.  If your child chose yoga or movie, they need to bring a blanket or towel to sit on.  If they chose Valentine’s crafts they will need to bring their crayon box.  Students who have stayed on all green the entire year are invited to have free time in the computer lab.  Congratulations to all of the students who made it to this month’s party!!!

Valentine’s Day Party

Week of February 4-6

I hope everyone enjoyed their 2 Snow Days!!!

Spelling words (homophones):  aunt, ant, blew, blue, eight, ate

There will NOT be any academic words due to the shortened week.  There will be 4 “Mystery Words” on Friday’s Spelling test.

Due to the Snow Days, there will NOT be a new Reading Bag assignment this week.  Students should continue to read 15-20 minutes every night and visit www.myon.com to read books at home.

Students will have a specific spelling assignment today and tomorrow since we did not have school on Monday or Tuesday.  Make sure each assignment is completed and turned in on time.  Today’s assignment will be writing each spelling word in a complete sentence.

Report Cards

Report cards will be coming home today.  They will NOT show a new NWEA score for the 2nd card marking because we are currently starting NWEA testing over the next three weeks.

Go over your child’s report card with them and give positive feedback for what they are doing well in, and encourage them to show growth in areas that need improvement.
