Spelling Tests in Google Classroom do not allow parents to see what their child spelled incorrectly.  It only allows you to see what their final score is.  As a parent, I know that I like to be able to see what my child got wrong.  Therefore, I will be going back to our original way of taking written spelling tests starting this Friday.  Sometimes technology isn’t the best way of doing things:)

Tomorrow, October 31st is our Halloween Party.  The following families have already signed up on our SignUp Genius to donate food/items:  Khan, Davis, Stratford, Aljahmi, Kerr, Jammoul.  Thank you to these families.  Please do NOT send in any food items unless you are one of the families that signed up.  We will not have time or room in our stomachs to eat anything extra.  If you did not sign up for this party, you will have the opportunity to sign up for future parties.  Your child may bring in goody bags or candy to pass out to the classroom.  Students will NOT be able to deliver treats/candy to other classrooms or teachers.  If you would like to deliver a special treat to another teacher, you will have to do so after school.  Students will be watching a Halloween movie, enjoy our treats, and do a small craft project.  Students are allowed to wear costumes to school.  Please make sure there are no weapons, masks, or excessive face paint.  Students will not be able to change into their costumes at school, so it is important for all students in our class to get dressed in the morning and wear their costumes to school.  I will post a class photo of the students in the costumes at the end of the day.

5th grade Band is every Monday and Wednesday.  Monday is woodwinds at 12:45 (flutes, clarinets, saxophones) and brass at 1:30 (trumpets and trombones).  Wednesday is strings (violins) at 12:45 and percussion (drums) at 1:30.  It is important that your child bring their instrument to school on the correct day.

Reminder that this Friday, November 3rd is a half day of school.  School will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.

The end of the first marking period is this Friday, November 3rd.  Please make sure your child has turned in all late/missing assignments by Friday morning.  Missing assignments will effect students’ grades on report cards.

Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for November 9th, 15th, and 16th.  Please go back to my previous blog to see what day/time you signed up for.  If you have not signed up yet, please contact me as soon as possible to pick a day and time.   Please make sure to arrive on time on the correct day.  If you arrive late, you will have to wait until there is an opening in my schedule.  Parents will receive their child’s report card and NWEA scores at conferences.

Reminder that Weekly Reading Logs are due EVERY MONDAY!  Students who do not return their logs will be walking the track during outside recess.

Students should be reading and writing every day according to their list of assignments in the Reading Bags.  Many students are not keeping up, and this will effect their grades.  Students should read the assigned pages/chapter each day and choose a written response to write in their response notebooks.  The written responses should vary from day to day and should average 1/2 page each.  Some students are choosing the same activity every day and some are only writing one sentence.  Please check your child’s Reading Bag and response notebook to make sure they are completing their work and following directions.

Parents should be checking their child’s Student Planner on a daily basis and signed the planner every day.  Many families are doing a great job, while others have not had a parent signature in weeks.  This is an important tool for communication and is a responsibility of every child in class.
