Week of September 11-15

Thank you for checking my blog.  I will make a weekly post every Monday that will cover important things to know throughout the week.  If something special arises, I will post them on my blog throughout the week.

This year, all 4th and 5th graders at Snow will have 10 academic spelling words that follow a particular pattern and 5 content words that are specific to math, science, social studies, or language.  There will NOT be any cold words on Friday’s test.

4th grade spelling words-

Multisyllabic words with short vowels a and e:  problem, latitude, machine, system, member, snack, happen, candy, theft, travel

Content words:  points, lines, line segments, rays, quadrangles

5th grade spelling words-

Long and short /a/ vowel patterns:  advance, abstract, aggravate, amaze, complain, napkin, happened, candidate, transplant, invade

Content words:  grateful, array, pair, factor, rectangular

Our lunch is from 11:10-11:50, therefore our class will enjoy snack in the afternoon around 1:30.  Students are allowed to bring a HEALTHY snack to enjoy in the afternoon.

We will begin our switching of classes today for Science and Social Studies.  Fourth graders will go to Mrs. Majetic for Science and to Ms. Guadiana for Social Studies in the afternoon.  Fifth graders will go to Ms. Sherlock for Science and Mr. DeSantis for Social Studies at a different time in the afternoon.  Each session is approximately 40 minutes per subject area.  Each student needs a folder and spiral notebook for each class.  When a certain grade is out of the room, I will be teaching math to the other grade and vice versa.  This allows each grade to join their classmates for Science and Social Studies, and get intense work with myself for math!

Reminder that Open House is this Thursday, September 14th from 6:00-7:30 pm.  Please come in to meet the teacher, see your child’s classroom, and see how our classroom works!

Reminder that tonight, Monday, September 11th is the Camp Pinewood meeting for 5th grade parents from 5:30-6:15 pm in the cafeteria.  Camp counselors will be here to go over important information regarding camp.  Fifth graders will attend camp from October 4-6.
