I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving weekend. I just wanted to send out a reminder. Monday is picture day and spelling test. Even if you do not purchase pictures your child will have a picture taken for the yearbook Also homework packets and reading logs are due. See everyone tomorrow !!
Conference reminders went home Monday. Thank you for everyone who sent them back signed. During conferences we will go over your child’s report card and NWEA scores. I look forward to seeing everyone !
We are beginning our next science unit on light. Please send in a working flashlight with batteries labeled with your child’s name. We will be using the flashlights for about a month experimenting with light. The flashlights will be returned around winter break. If you are able, please send them in by Monday, November 13, 2017.
Just a reminder that tomorrow is pink out day. Wear pink and donate $1.00 or more. All profits go to help children with cancer. What a great cause. I hope everyone will participate!
Friday, October 13 is half a day. 11:10 dismissal time.
I introduced the counting on strategy for addition. Please encourage your child to use it at home as well.
4+3= Hold four in your head and count up three more. 4…….5,6, 7. 4+3=7
Try larger numbers at home too.
In science we are exploring sound and what produces sound. We went on a sound walk inside and outside and compared the different types of sounds.
Next, we will conclude how sound is made.
Next week we will be working on short u words. Please remember to play around with the spelling words. It is suppose to be nice this weekend so have your child write all the words he or she knows with sidewalk chalk. How about making words rhyme. Finding patterns in words can be fun and really make reading and writing much easier for your child.
We worked really hard on analyzing graphs this week. They had to write their own graph analysis in the their journals today with minimal help. The concept of how many more or less is still a bit tricky. We will be taking unit one test this week. I made sure to hand back the homework so you can look over it with your child. The test will look very similar to the math pages in the homework. I also handed back a quick check quiz earlier this week over tally marks, before and after numbers and which number is greater. Remember greater means more or bigger. This quiz is also a great resource to review.
Have a great weekend. Please curl up and read a good book with your child. Model the love for reading!!!!
There is a spelling test tomorrow. We have been working on the short i sound all week. Some are still having trouble with it. As you study, tell them they have to wrinkle the nose like when you say icky!!! Its been helping. Remember to play with the spelling pattern to make new words even silly ones.
Next week in math we will be working on graphs almost daily. Please review worksheets that come home. Which choice is the greatest and least. How many more is one choice than the other.
It was nice to see everyone at open house last night. If you were unable to come, I sent home a sample of your child’s writing and a schedule for all our special classes.
We are working on tally marks, graph analysis (greatest and least) and numbers positions before, between and after. ex. 4 5 6 4 is before 5. 5 is between 4 and 6. 6 is after 5.
Please continue these concepts at home. sidewalk chalk and white boards are great tools to practice with.
Open House is tonight 6:00-7:30p.m. I hope to see everyone there.
Open House is a time to let your child shine! Let them show you his or her desk, carpet area and hand print. Take the time to see the gym, computer lab and library. The book fair will be open in the library. You may go and look around and help your child pick good-fit books to purchase.
