Welcome Back

Welcome back to school.  Our first week has been a success!!  We have been learning all the routines of the classroom and are ready for our second week of school.  Please make sure you are reading the materials in your child’s homework folder every night.  This is how I will communicate with you.  All notes and homework will go home in the folder.  Thank you to everyone who has completed all the forms and sent them back already.  Its a big help to me when things are completed and returned promptly.

There is no school on Friday, August 30th and Monday, September 3rd.

Summer Measuring

I hope everyone had a safe July 4th. You should have quite a few entries in your summer journal. Remember that each writing entry should have a clear topic sentence, at least 3 details and a clear conclusion. Don’t forget voice, adjectives and expanding those details. Give me the juicy stuff!!!!

Measure objects outside today. Use a ruler to measure the length of objects in inches and then measure the same objects in centimeters. Draw a chart and record your results. What do you observe about your measurements. Hint: compare the inches and centimeters.

Challenge yourself and measure the perimeters of a few objects. Remember the perimeter is when you measure each side of the object and add them together.

Happy measuring!!!!

Summer Journal

I hope everyone is having a super summer vacation. I already went on my first camping trip with my family to the sand dunes. It was so much fun. I sent home a summer journal. The journal replaces the summer packet usually sent home. On each page we glued an assignment. Please work on the journal over the summer and return the journal to your child’s second grade teacher in the fall. There are several empty pages at the end of the journal for your child to write their own stories or keep track of their progress on NWEA practice, myon or mobymax. Please make sure your child is utilizing these resources provided by the district. Have a wonderful summer!!!!!!!

Spirit Week

This week is spirit week.  We get a point for every student who participates.  Please do NOT go out and buy anything.  Just use what you have at home.

Tuesday, Professional Day- Dress professional or what you want to be when you grow up.

Wednesday, Character Day- Dress like a character from a book or movie.  Think about what you dress your child in.  Keep it simple because they should be comfortable and be able to use the bathroom and play on the playground.

Thursday, Crazy Day- Wear mix match clothes and crazy hair

Friday, Lowrey Pride Day- Dress in Lowrey School Shirts or anything red.

Class Trip

Permission slips for Greenfield Village are due tomorrow.  Please make sure to send yours in.  I will order the tickets tomorrow.  Once they are ordered there price of the tickets will go up.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms. Let your children pamper you today💕

I sent home a permission slip for our trip to Greenfield Village on Friday.  Please read over the note and sign the slip.  Also let me know if a parent would like to go with us to help out.

Its a wonderful informative trip. Its a great way to wrap up our unit covering life in the past.

Homework

Happy Friday everyone!  I just wanted to remind everyone of our homework procedures.

Every week your child brings home a packet.  One or two pages of homework should be done each night.  In addition, your child has comprehension questions that go with the books they are reading.  These questions are also homework.  Your child has time in class to work on the questions, but if they are not completed they must be completed at home.  Last, your child should be reading for at least 15minutes each night.  The reading log should be signed each night and brought back to school the next day.  I do check them.  If it is not signed, that makes me think your child did not do his or her homework.  Please continue to check folders and ask your child questions about their day.  As a parent, you set the example of the importance of homework and learning.

What a wonderful concert today.  I am so proud for the children.  They worked so hard and it showed.  Well done!!

PTA is having a Mother’s Day store.  We will be going May 9.
