Happy Saturday families,
We will have a Social Studies test this week. I usually try to space the test out over a few days to break it down a little bit for the kids. The test will cover needs and wants, goods and services, consumer and producer, scarcity and fairness.
A need is something you have to have to live. Ex. Water, shelter, healthy food.
A want is something you would like to have but don’t really need. Ex. Video games and chocolate cake.
A producer is someone who makes or grows something or privides a service. Ex. A pizza maker provides pizza. A hair dresser provides a srevice – a haircut.
A consumer is someone who uses the good or receives the srevice. Ex. I buy bread from the store. I am the consumer. I got a haircut. I am a consumer of a service.
Examples of goods are food, bike, clothes.
Examples of services are a mailcarrier, a teacher or a police officer.
Scarcity means not enough. I have 10 students and only 5 pencils. This is an example of scarcity because i don’t have enough pencils.
As for fairness the concept being addressed is that yes its fair to not get what you want because sometimes adults have to make choices.
We have been reviewing all last week. The fairness question gets them every time.
